Sorry Minnesota. Avery Has To Go (For a While)

Avery Brewing drinkers in Minnesota, grab what Avery Brewing bottles might be left on your shelves. Avery will be leaving soon. As the brewery works on their new location, the brewery finds it can’t keep up with the demand in all they current territories.

Until we finish our new brewery, we’re forced to limit our markets.  When we do come back to Minnesota, and we will, it will be with quality rep support, tons of fresh beer and even more tons of excitement to be drinking with those guys again.”

Don’t worry. Avery plans on returning as soon as they can.

Total Wine Posts 12/12 Westvleteren Street Date, Releases Early

Total Wine didn’t make a lot of friends this week when they released Westvletern XII. Touted as one of the world’s best beers (and hardest to purchase) has hit U.S. soil for one time only. Total Wine working with Shelton Brothers all but got complete inclusivity (despite legal questions it raises in some states.) Total Wine’s blog announced a street date of 12/12/12. As you can see above, the store communications confirm this date.

However, on December 1st- many of the stores let the gift packs go. Now, BSJ is here to report news and such surrounding your favorite beverage. But I have to ask the question, why would you get people excited for a beer that will be sold in the United States just one time. Ever. Tell them a release date so they get a shot at it, then- not release like you said you would?

Also, I’m told that in Georgia – Quality is the distributor on record. Total Wine received all the gift packs for the state. Quality asked for some back to give to other retailers. Total Wine completely refused. That raises even more legal questions. Shady dealings? Maybe.

UPDATE: Total Wine has removed the original post about the Westy Release date.

Thanks @BrewMeOne for the pic.

DC Brau To Can “On Wings Of Armageddon”

DC Brau Brewing Co. (Washington, DC) will be canning On The Wings of Armageddon in December. Perfect for the end of the world right?  According to Mayan and Hopi calendars the “transition from one world age to another” will happen on December 21, 2012.

At first glance, it has an orange hue in the glass with a viscus, rocky head that refuses to dissipate. Upon first sniff there are dominate aromas of citrus, white grapes and grapefruit with light bread and biscut notes. After the first sip we taste a mellow bitterness that only grows as more is consumed. Moderately carbonated, deceptively smooth, refreshingly dry and extremely heady for a beer at 9.2% ABV.

Expect these bad boys shortly after the end of days. If we are still here that is…

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: Arrived in September, 2012 in 22oz bombers, Draft
Can Arrival: TBA

9.2% ABV
