Russian River Pulls Out of Washington

Let the speculation end here: Russian River has pulled their distribution out of Washington state. The brewery states that the recent withdraw was entirely due to supply vs. demand. Their brewpub does a whopping 50%+ of their sales and therefore they have chosen to take the supplies meant for Washington and send them to their brewpub. Also, for the same reason, don’t expect to see them expanding distribution any time soon. Finally, don’t believe the hype – all the rumors surrounding expansion, pulling out of Oregon, and just about everything else regarding the situation are just that. Now that all that is cleared up, carry on.

Metal Band Sepultura Gets Signature Beer

sepultura weizen

To celebrate 25 years of general bad-assery, Sepultura will be launching their own signature beer appropriate called Sepultura Weizen. With this release Sepultura will join the likes of Motorhead and AC/DC who already have their own beers.

This wheat beer is described as a turbidity caused by natural yeast in suspension”  with “aroma and flavors of banana and clove from a special strain of yeast that produces the chemicals that lead to these perceptions.”  One would expect them to launch something a little … heavier … given their style of music, but it seems that these metal bands love to show their softer sides with their choices in beers.

Style: Wheat Beer
Availability: 750mL bottles
Arrival: TBD

Sam Adam’s LongShot Series 2013: Zach Adams Magnificent Seven IPA

Samuel Adams Longshot Magnificent Seven

Samuel Adams is proud to announce that the annual quest for exceptional homebrews has yet again returned a wide spectrum of flavorful beers that continue to impress. Connecticut resident Zack Adams is one of 3 winners hand selected from over 1,000 entrants by industry leaders including Tony Forder from Ale Street News, Win Bassett of All About Beer, Bob Townsend of Atlanta Journal-Constitution and beer writers John Holl, Jay Brooks, and Marty Nachel. Together, they selected the winning brews based on the American Homebrewers Association Beer Judge Certificate Program guidelines. Each beer was carefully evaluated on the aroma, appearance, flavor and mouthfeel according to the style category under which it was submitted.

Zack Adams’s Magnificent Seven IPA is described as “a showcase of seven American hop varieties that impart a big piney and lingering resinous flavor. A true Imperial American IPA, this brew pours a rich bronze color. The slightly sweet malt character is pleasantly balanced by a pronounced hop bitterness with grapefruit, pine and earthy notes from the American hops. This medium-bodied IPA also delivers caramel, citrus, lemon and piney aromas.”

Look for this beer, as well as the 2 other winners, in the soon-to-be-launched LongShot Series Samplers.

Style: American IPA
Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: TBA

7.2% ABV
