3 Months Later, Oskar Blues North Carolina Is Full

It has been three months since Colorado’s Oskar Blues opened the new brewery in Brevard, North Carolina. Here in March, 2013, the brewery is operating at full capacity. That means all the tanks are full of beer. What is a brewery to do? You add more tanks. We are told six more tanks are on the way to Brevard, allowing OB to make even more beer.

The Brevard, NC brewery now supplies the East Coast Oskar Blues markets. A lot of craft breweries are finding that over time, it is cheaper to build a second brewery then to deal with rising shipping costs.

Check out Beer Street Journal’s look inside the Brevard brewery just before it opened in December.

In conjunction with Robinson’s Brewery in the UK Iron Maiden has created Trooper Ale which should be available in May. There’s no official word yet whether or not this will hit the US. Start crossing your fingers now.

“I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous — Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is Trooper. I love it.” – Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden lead singer

Dry Neighborhood Approves Craft Only License

The East Village area of Chicago has approved a motion to allow alcohol sales in their previously dry community, but with one small catch.
In an attempt to control the clientele and ‘alcohol-related crimes,’ the area has approved a liquor license for the Garden Gourmet Market that allows only craft beer – prohibiting “hard liquor, ‘fortified wines’ such as Wild Irish Rose and Night Train, malt liquors such as Colt 45 and Cobra and “other products that are intended to provide high alcohol content at a low price.” Only single servings of cans or bottles of beer produced by breweries defined as “craft brewers” by the Brewers Association can be sold. This is a huge step for the Chicago suburb and excellent recognition of the craft brewers and enthusiasts who continue to support craft beer as a more refined beverage choice.
