Man Stabbed Over Single Beer

The ridiculous nugget comes from Winnipeg. (That’s Canada.) A man was stabbed yesterday morning for a single beer. Crazy? Yeah, but get this. He was holding a whole case of beer.

Basically, it’s 3 A.M. He was holding a single beer of the case he just bought, when a man walked up and grabbed it. The two tangled, and the beer buyer got stabbed.

Next, the stabby guy forced his way into the store, breaking a window, where he was later arrested.

Safe to assume it this wasn’t over Dark Lord bottles. [Canoe.ca]

Basketball & Craft Beer: Hawktoberfest Returns

The Atlanta Hawks will celebrate local craft beer and basketball on March 21st, 2014 Last year’s inaugural event was quite successful, prompting a bigger party this year.

Here is how it works. Grab a ticket to the Atlanta Hawks vs. Pelicans. Use promo code (CraftBeer). Next, grab a $20 passport to the festival. The passport gets you 18, 20oz samples if Georgia’s best craft beer.

Mother Earth Launching Park Day Pilsner Cans

There’s a new can in Mother Earth Brewing’s portfolio – Park Day Bohemian Style Pilsner.

The pilsner wine bronze last year the Great American Beer Festival. The brewery had been waiting for the beginning of warmer weather to unleash this new year round offering. Brew Master, Josh D. Brewer:

“Our traditional Bohemian style Pilsner is brewed with Weyermann Bohemian Pilsner malt and tettnang hops. Straw in color, this light-bodied, 4.8% session beer, offers a floral malty nose and a clean, crisp, malty hop taste. Enjoy Park Day for a day in the park or all year long.”

Look for distribution begins in early March, 2014.

Coney Island Boasts New Watermelon Wheat Offering

Shmaltz Brewing Company separated and sold off the Coney Island brand in 2013. The brand was reformulated into a brewing company, by Alchemy and Science, a Boston Beer division. Distribution scaled back to the state of New York and the nearby area. In addition, the artwork has been overhauled, and new beers promised.

One of the first new offerings under the new Coney Island Brewing Co brand name will be Tunnel of Love Watermelon Wheat. The distribution will not be as wide as 21st Amendment’s Watermelon Wheat. That summer offering is still king.

Like a gentle summer breeze, the scent of watermelon cools your senses before a sweet first sip opens to a rich, full-bodied beer. A crisp, slightly fruity finish rounds out this lovely ride.

Look for this summer seasonal in 12oz bottles.

As far as the southeast goes, this explains a little bit as to why some states see the likes of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout (15% ABV) and Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA (18.5%).

Not sure of the origin of this graphic, but the data on state ABV (alcohol by volume) or ABW (alcohol by weight).

Some states, such as Georgia, have legally sold heavyweight beers like Brewdog’s Sink the Bismark (41%) or Tactical Nuclear Penguin (32%), but these were brought in as a “spirit” instead of malted beverage/beer. That move also limited sales of those beers to beer stores that also were licensed to sell liquor.
