GEORGIA – Published in the Atlanta Journal Constitution today was the state of Sunday Sales in Georgia. The bill still isn’t dead, just stalled.

What You Need To Know:
– There are 2 bills up for vote, one in the House (HB 69), one in the Senate (SB 10)
– The Senate bill has stalled in the Rules committee Mid February.
– Republican Caucus held a secret vote, opting not to bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
– The House Bill actually passed the committee, but hasn’t reached the floor for a vote.

Lost Abbey Barrel Notes

Tomme Arthur is spending some time this week in Denmark, Scotland, & Belgium.  He mentions it in March’s Libri Divini. Something interesting he notes –

“We have a visit scheduled with their cask supplier. It is my hope to find types of barrels and wood expressions currently lacking in our barrel program enabling us a wider range of flavor possibilities.”

Sounds like some new barrels in the works for Lost Abbey.

Mad River Adds Barrel Aging Program

Mad River Brewing is based in Blue Lake, California.  Just announced recently the official addition of a barrel aging program.  From Mad River:

Our brewing team is very excited about the launching of the Mad River barrel program! February 25th, 2011 saw the filling of Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels with our Steelhead Extra Stout and our John Barleycorn Barleywine 2010 Cellar Reserve.  These barrels will be aged 3 to 4 months for the stout and up to 7 months for the barleywine, with draft release dates to be determined. In addition, an extremely limited bottling of each will be made available at our tasting room in Blue Lake, California. This will be a self-funding and perpetual program in the many years to come

Sierra Nevada To Add Cans In 2011

Sierra Nevada Brewing (Chico, CA) will be adding a canning line sometime in 2011.  Details are not widely known, I consulted Chad Mc Rae with the brewery that shed a little light on the status of things:

“We are going to introduce cans in late 2011, they will be in addition to bottles, but will ultimately be a small part of our business. We have no firm commitments to brands or package size, as of yet, but we will send out more formal releases as we know more information.”

Either way, some big news.  Updates to follow.

Weyerbacher Rebranding In 2011

Weyerbacher Brewing (Easton, PA) makes great beer.  Even though what is inside the bottle is amazing, the look of the label on the outside was over due for a little sprucing up.  Looks like the good people of Weyerbacher decided it now is the time.

As previously mentioned, Blasphemy – a big quadrupel by Weyerbacher is coming back from a few year hiatus.  The new label appears on the left, and gives a preview of whats to come.

From Weyerbacher:
Yes, you’ve been telling us for years that we needed it and we’re finally going to do it! Dan, Chris & Chris began work on the project a few months ago with consulting/design firm SSM Creative. A complete redesign of the Weyerbacher brand including new logo, packaging of all types, POS, etc. will finally be coming later this year. Thanks for all of your input and ideas over the years, we’re finally able to put this redesign in motion.

So, with that be on the lookout for an all new Weyerbacher Brewing in 2011.
