Bronx’s First Brewery In 50 Years Debuts

New York’s Bronx neighborhood is boasting it’s first brewery in over 50 years – Bronx Brewery.    Steve O’Sullivan had the idea to start a brewery in 2009, bringing in friends s Chris Gallant, Damian Brown and Kirk Voltz.

Bronx Pale Ale finally debuted on September 8th, at the Bronx Ale House.

“It’s been a fun ride and it’s great to be where we are right now,” Gallant said. “We knew we had something special but we were never satisfied. We came up with better ingredients for a perfect ale, and Damian really brewed one heck of a beer. Everybody seems to love it and we couldn’t be happier.”

About Bronx Pale:
This deep amber, American-style pale ale is brewed with five different barley malts, generous additions of Cascade and Centennial hops, and a unique strain of yeast. The British, German and American malts used provide a blend of caramel, biscuit, and nutty malt flavors. The hops provide a gentle, pleasant bitterness with an intense floral and citrus aroma. It is dry-hopped, unfiltered and unpasteurized.

6.3% ABV, 34 IBUs

Bronx Pale is brewed at Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck, Connecticut.  There are about 15 places in New York pouring the beer at the moment.  No immediate details on future releases, or physical brewery plans.  [YourNabe via BronxBrewery]

Meth Lab? Homebrewing? Cops Raid Apartment

Can’t make this stuff up. Police in Colorado Springs raided an apartment

building on suspicion of being a meth lab.  The building manager saw a home brewing setup, and called the police.

Colorado Springs police said the apartment building at 2400 Tremont St. was evacuated Monday and a Hazardous Materials team was brought in after the manager conducted a routine inspection and discovered a pair of 5-gallon buckets giving off an odor he suspected to be involved with the production of meth, The (Colorado Springs) Gazette reported Wednesday.
