Lagunitas Plans On Going Big. 49 States Big

This is a big jump for a brewery.  Lagunitas Brewing has plans to expand into 49 states after they get done expanding in April.  The brewery is currently in 35 states.  Whose left out?  Tennessee.  Stringent high alcohol laws prevent Lag’s beers from being sold there.  (Good job prudes.)

Post expansion, Lagunitas will make a jump from 185,000 barrels (5,735,000 gallons) to 600,000 barrels (18,600,000 gallons). That’s basically going from making 61 million bottles of beer to 198 million. Big jump.   The expansion entails a larger brewhouse, more fermentation space, larger kegging line, faster bottling line.  Everything you need to make millions of gallons of beer,  and in the hand of thirsty folks.  In comparison, Leinenkugel’s makes close to the same among of beer, according to John Leinenkugel.  This year should mark a 31% growth in sales for the Petaluma, California brewery.  IPA is their best seller.  [ShankenNews]

Terrapin’s Side Project #16: Phlux Capacitor

Dustin Watts from Terrapin showed me this last week. I couldn’t wait to finally get a hold of the artwork.  The brewery is on the cusp of releasing their next Side Project brew- Phlux Capacitor (any similarity with a movie living or dead is purely coincidental.)

Time traveling in at number 16 in our “Side Project” series of beers is “Phlux Capacitor.” This wood aged bully is brewed to an unknown style from another dimension.  Rumor has it that this beer was the first invented on planet Vulcan on Saturday, November 5, 1955 at 10:04 pm.  Scribbled on the back of a sports almanac inside an abandoned Delorean.  It is said that the speedometer in the car was frozen at 88 miles per hour and it took 1.21 gigawatts of power to jumpstart the car back to the future.  We hope you enjoy our interpretation of this totally fictitious ale.

Style:
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: Late March, 2012

9.8% ABV, 88 IBUs (They were aiming for 12.1% (1.21 gigawatts!!! looks like it’s a little lower)

3 Floyds Dark Lord Day Tickets On Sale 3/17

3 Floyds Dark Lord Day tickets will go on sale on St. Paddy’s Day  (3/17/12) at 12 noon CT.   $15 a ticket. 2 tickets per person max.

We are continuing the three different group sales like last year because they worked so well for getting people through the lines quickly and efficiently.  Group A 10 am to noon Group B 1 pm to 3 pm Group C 5 pm to 7 pm.

Ed Note:  Good luck to those attempting to get tickets.  Last year, Music Today’s website crashed hard.  I don’t understand how anyone got tickets to the event after seeing the function of the website.
