Goose Island Georgia Launch Initial Lineup

Goose Island Brewing is planning to begin distribution to Georgia sometime in the 4th quarter of 2012. (October – December.)  Below is a tentative lineup of beers Georgia can expect at the initial rollout:

Fermented with wild yeasts and aged in wine barrels with orange peel, Sofie is a tart, dry, sparkling ale. A subtle, spicy white pepper note, a hint of citrus from the orange peel and a creamy vanilla finish make Sofie an intriguing choice for Champagne drinkers and beer drinkers who are fond of Belgian Saisons.  Availability: 12/4 pks, Draft.

Wild in character, with a slightly fruity aroma and a spicy yeast flavor that is as unique as it is satisfying — Matilda is an intriguing choice for beer and wine lovers alike. Dry and quenching, it’s the perfect accompaniment at the dining table or for casually socializing at the bar.  Availability: 12 oz/ 4pks, Draft

Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.  Availability: 12 oz/4 pks, Draft.

With an aroma of roasted chestnuts and a mysteriously dark, mahogany hue, Pepe Nero is a farmhouse ale brewed with black peppercorns. His roasty sweetness melds into a lingering, earthy, black pepper finish that is ideal for pairing with grilled meats and roasted vegetables.  Availability: 12oz/4 pks. No Draft.

How Much Does It Take To Make Bond Drink Heineken? $45 Million

How will that bottle of Heineken cost in James Bond’s new movie Skyfall?  Apparently around $45 Million.   A couple of weeks ago at the Heineken National Expo, Heineken NV debuted one of their new marketing approaches in 2012- James Bond.  He will ditch the martini and grab a beer.    When it was announced, there were cheers.  However, looking around right after the announcement I saw a few face palms.  The martini to James Bond is like the lightsaber to Luke Skywalker.  Sacred.

The best reaction I’ve read yet to the Heineken-Bond scandal? “I hope he gets it shaken…”  [via Heineken Source]

Lagunitas To Open Second Brewery In Chicago

Lagunitas Brewing owner Tony Magee mentioned earlier today that he had some pretty big news coming soon.  He sure did.  Magee announced via Twitter this evening that he will be opening a new brewery location in Chicago, Illinois. Why?  It’s all about logistics.  Magee went on to say (tweet) that after looking at how much the brewery was spending on shipping to the east coast.  Apparently it adds up to the cost of a whole new brewery.

Lagunitas has rented an old soundstage (18th & Rockwell) in Tony Magee’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois.   A 25o BBL Rolec brew house that will be ready by July, 2013.  First brew is slated for 4th quarter 2013.

That’s the 3rd brewery in a matter of weeks that have announced new east coast locations.  Ok, Chi Town is more eastern than Petaluma, California is.  New Belgium and Sierra Nevada have both recently committed to Asheville, North Carolina
