It seems like beer fans were really excited to find out that famed ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s is teaming up with New Belgium Brewing. Two companies, steeped in environmental responsibility, and creativity, team up. Great right? A win right?
Well, it’s not the digital world if someone isn’t offended. Alcohol Justice, a non-profit organization who’s mission states: We promote evidence-based public health policies and organize campaigns with diverse communities and youth against the alcohol industry’s harmful practices… Has taken a stand against this upcoming collaboration.
Per Bruce Lee Livingston, CEO of Alcohol Justice:
“A crass, corporate greedy move to put put a brand name like Ben & Jerry’s on a beer. It’s bad for children — who will start looking at beer as the next step after ice cream.”
Wait. So now ice cream is considered a gateway drug, per Livingston? Seems like a massive stretch to us.
Currently, Ben & Jerry’s doesn’t make alcoholic ice cream of any kind, but has mentioned in the past that the company has considered making an ice cream with weed. A substance that is legal in Colorado.
New Belgium Salted Caramel Brownie Brown Ale is slated to come out around September of 2015.
