Japanese Brewer Kirin Debuts Thinner Bottle

Kirin Brewing Co. has debuted a new bottle, that is just 13.4 ounces in weight. That’s around 20% lighter than the bottle the brewery was previously using.

The new bottle holds 16.9 ounces (same as before) but is 1.5 millimeters slimmer, and is coated with ceramic to protect from impact.

Overall a case of 20 bottles weights almost 4 pounds less than before. That could reduce carbon emissions from shipping by nearly 1000 tons annually.

The bottles will gradually replace the current inventory of Kirin beer over the next few months/years.
