5Church Midtown: Fresh Twists on New American Classics

Last night was rainy, boozy, artistic and tasty.

The new menu roll out last night was fire. 5Church Midtown, the go-to New American joint that’s throwing great flavor in the heart of Midtown Atlanta. Anchored in Colony Square at 1197 Peachtree Street NE, this K5 Hospitality standout — yeah, the crew that brought us AltaToro (more fire. Literaly more fire) — dropped its latest food lineup this month, mixing bold, technique-driven dishes with i with a real artistic vibe making this a great Southern food destination.

First thing you notice is the ceiling – handwritten words from Sun Tzu’s The Art of War, dramatic yet colorful Iron Tree sculpture, and of course, the massive phoenix bird rising from non-existent ashes. 5 Church recently tweaked the art and layout, really embossing this place a chic dining establishment. Don’t sleep on the rooftop “Virtue” for those skyline views. (Stay Sexy Atlanta.) This night’s spotlight though is as usual – amazing food and drinks.

From the updated cocktail roster, highlights include the Scent of a Woman (Tito’s Vodka, St. Germain, kiwi, pineapple, lime, and simple for a bright, tropical hit), Smoke on the Water (Bahnez Mezcal, watermelon, jalapeño syrup, and lime), the really unique Venom (Ghost Rail Gin, cucumber water, apple cider vinegar, ginger, and lime for a sharp, refreshing edge). The local beer lineup includes Creature Comforts, SweetWater, Terrapin, and Gate City Brewing.

On the plate side, the food gets both ambitious and fun — think starters like the Furikake Crab Cake over ube purée, Pan Seared Salmon with truffled spring pea sauce, Mediterranean Halibut in brown butter, and prime cuts like the Filet Mignon, and pork belly. The dishes are beautifully plated, and perfectly cooked.

Tag 5 Church Midtown Atlanta for another great spot with with New American flair and damn good cocktails. Thiis menu preview was just a peek into what K5 really can do. Booze Tips: Drop in for Social Hour’s $7 wines and $5 beers Monday-Friday from 3-7pm. Sundays you can really go hard with $50 dollar all you can eat Sunday brunch. Add bottomless mimosa for $30. Tip well on those mimosas.

A evening in 5 Church was like eating in an art museum, proving once again why I love eating and drinking in Atlanta. Cheers to the new evolution, 5Church Midtown.
