Boulevard Coffee Ale Coming To Smokestack Series

Boulevard Coffee Ale

An new Boulevard Brewing Smokestack Series release is in the works – Coffee Ale.  A collaboration with The Roasterie Air Roasted Coffee.

Neighbors for nearly twenty years, Boulevard Brewing Company and The Roasterie share a passion for making ex-traordinary beverages. In Coffee Ale, our two celebrated brewing traditions come together in a long-awaited collaboration Ethiopian Sidamo from Africa’s Great Rift Valley has been carefully blended with rye, oats, and malted barley, and spiced with Perle and Styrian Golding hops. The delightfully fragrant beer pres-ents a glowing, tawny-amber hue. The clean, crisp acidity of the air-roasted coffee mingles with malt on the palate, lingering faintly in a subtly sweet finish.

Style:       (w/ Coffee)
Availability: 750ml bottles, Draft
Arrival: TBA

9.3% ABV

Boulevard Rye on Rye Returns

Boulevard Brewing’s Rye-on-Rye, part of the Smokestack Series, has returned. For this release, the brewery aged part of the beer in rye whiskey barrels. Rye beer, rye whiskey barrels. Hope you love both.

Why Rye? This assertively flavorful grain is more often associated with whiskey than with ales. Even in that arena, it has largely been eclipsed by corn and barley, the sources of bourbon and scotch. But when we procured some seasoned barrels from our friends at Templeton Rye, we asked ourselves, “Why not?” Why not brew a rich, tawny rye ale, then mellow it in the warmth of charred oak rye whiskey casks? Two kinds of malted rye provide spicy sweetness, giving way to notes of caramelized wood and the citrusy tang of Perle, Magnum, and Saphir hops before easing into a dry, lingering finish.

Style: Rye Beer (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750ml bottles, corked & caged
Taste Expectations:  See above

11% ABV

Boulevard & Pretty Things Release “Stingo”

The third collaboration from Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) is brewed with Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project in Somerville, MA. Pretty Things recently took a road trip over the summer and found themselves in Kansas City. The breweries know each other from various beer festivals.

Stingo is the name of the collaboration, a 17th century English beer style. Why stingo? Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things have a connection to England. Dann brewed in England for years, and Martha was born in Yorkshire. Great idea honestly.  So how did it turn out? Boulevard brewmaster Steven Pauwels describes Stingo as:

bold and full-bodied, with a big malty nose, hints of dark malt, chocolate, licorice, and black fruits, and just the right amount of tartness in the finish. It pairs exceptionally well with wild game, smoked meats, strong cheeses, and heavily seasoned dishes.

Stingo joins Boulevard’s Smokestack Series

Style: English Strong Ale
Availability: 750 ml Bottles, corked & caged. Draft.  One time release.
Distribution: Through Boulevard

8.5% ABV

Previous Boulevard Collaborations:

1: Imperial Pilsner with  Orval brewmaster Jean-Marie Rock

2. White I.P.A. with Deschutes Brewery

Boulevard Puts Chocolate On Haitus

Boulevard has placed Chocolate Ale on hiatus in 2013.  They announced today that the beer isn’t permanently retired, just on hold for a while.

It’s no secret that Boulevard faced challenges during the two previous releases of the popular seasonal beer, not least of which was satisfying surprisingly strong consumer demand. The company is actively working on several initiatives to help overcome these challenges, for Chocolate Ale as well as its other Smokestack Series seasonal and limited release offerings.

In the meantime, look forward to 80-Acre Hoppy Wheat Beer and Reverb Imperial Pilsner this summer.
