Heavy Seas Smooth Sail Arrives in April

Heavy Seas Smooth Sail Summer Ale arrives in April.

The brewery just launched their first year round beer in more than a decade, Crossbones Session IPA. The barrel aged, limited series known as Uncharted Waters, has a few new releases on the way.

Perfect for warm weather, Smooth is a wheat ale, brewed with orange and lemon peel.

…Brewmaster, Chris Leonard, “Smooth Sail Summer Ale is a beer that has been in development for quite some time. The goal was to produce a light, refreshing, flavorful beer that appeals to active folks and will become an integral part of warm weather fun. The beer is more than 20% malted wheat, giving it an airy mouthfeel and a frothy head. We’ve employed a neutral strain of “wheat” yeast to produce a clean tasting beer that is delicate on the palate. American hops are introduced late in the boil to impart a crisp flavor dimension. Finally, dried orange and lemon peel went into in our hopback to provide a fruity, citrus aroma – without adding sweetness…

Heavy Seas Smooth Sail Summer Ale will be available only in cans and draft.

Style: Wheat Ale (w/ Lemon Peel, Orange Peel.)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Release: April, 2015

Sam Adam Rebel Rider, A New Session IPA

Samuel Adams now has three Rebels in their west coast inspired IPA series. The line kicked off with Rebel IPA, a 5 hop variety, 6.7% ABV American IPA.

This week, the Boston based brewery has added an imperial IPA – Rebel Rouser, and a lower alcohol offering, Rebel Rider Session IPA.

Rebel Rider is brewed with Citra, Topaz and Cascade and dry-hopped with a variety of West Coast hops. Dry-hopping highlights the flavor and aroma of the hops rather than boiling them off or increasing bitterness.

Sam Adams Rebel Rider Session IPA is now available in 12oz bottles, draft.

Style: IPA (Session Beer)
Hops: Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Release: February, 2015

Cigar City & Duclaw Team Up on New Session Amber Ale

Duclaw Brewing (Baltimore, MD) recently made the trip to Tampa, Florida to collaborate with Cigar City Brewing,  The brewing teams created a flavorfully “extreme” session beer, Impey Barbicane Moongun Session Amber Ale.

Impey features Centennial, Cascade, and Equinox hops, so you won’t miss the hop punch in each sip.

We’ve collaborated with our friends at DuClaw Brewing Company to bring you Impey Barbicane’s Moon Gun, an amber colored exercise in pushing the limits of what a session beer can do. Fueled by earth shaking amounts of Cascade, Centennial and Equinox hops. It has just enough malt character to give some balance and keep it from ‘busting up” upon lift-off. Please join us in celebrating science, optimism, and the art of brewing with this stellar (or lunar) been As Jules Verne wrote, “I feel that we should always put a little art into what we do. It’s better that way?

Cigar City/Duclaw Impey Barbicane Moongun Session Amber Ale will be available in 22oz bottles.

Style: Amber Ale
Availability: 22oz bottles
Release: TBA

New Belgium Slow Ride Session IPA Launches Year Round

New Belgium Brewing (Fort Collins, CO) has launched a new, year round session beer, Slow Ride Session IPA. The brewery recognized the need for a hop forward, yet low abv offering in the year round lineup.

It’s amazingly flavorful, and it still comes in at 4.5% abv.”

Style: Session IPA
Hops: Cascade, Target, Nelson Sauvin, Centennial, Amarillo, Mosaic, Citra, Simcoe
