Terrapin Side Project #19: Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale

On shelves now is Terrapin Side Project #18: Liquid Bliss. Meet the follow up release coming in 2013 –  Mosaic Single Hopped Rye Ale. Brewer “Spike” has an affinity towards rye malt, so this comes a no surprise.

Freshly harvested from Hop Breeding Company, LLC in Yakima Valley, the hops used in Side Project 19 “Mosaic” came freshly picked from the fields of Perrault Farms, to our brewery, and into your glass. Known as hop HBC 369 before official naming in 2011, Mosaic is the daughter of Simcoe (YCR 14) and a Nugget-derived male. To get the best of all worlds from this new Humulus lupus, we used 100% Mosaic throughout the brewing process to utilize all the flavor and aroma that this world-class hop has to offer.

Style: Rye Beer
Hops: Mosaic
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: March, 2013

Bridgeport’s New Spring Seasonal: Smooth Ryed

Bridgeport_SmoothRyed_Label

This spring Bridgeport Brewing will bring out something new – a full-bodied hoppy ale using rye malt and whole leaf hops aptly named Smooth Ryed.

“This recipe creates a smooth, solid base for a big load of hop aroma from Oregon Centennial hops. We source the malts from Great Western Malting just across the river in Vancouver and the hops from good friends at two local farms about 35 miles south of Portland,” commented brewmaster, Jeff Edgerton. “We use only Centennials in the hopjack so that the consumer will get the wonderful full flavor and aroma that only those hops have.”Smooth Ryed will be available in all states where BridgePort is distributed starting in late December and early January.

Style: Rye Beer
Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: January, 2013

Boulevard Rye on Rye Returns

Boulevard Brewing’s Rye-on-Rye, part of the Smokestack Series, has returned. For this release, the brewery aged part of the beer in rye whiskey barrels. Rye beer, rye whiskey barrels. Hope you love both.

Why Rye? This assertively flavorful grain is more often associated with whiskey than with ales. Even in that arena, it has largely been eclipsed by corn and barley, the sources of bourbon and scotch. But when we procured some seasoned barrels from our friends at Templeton Rye, we asked ourselves, “Why not?” Why not brew a rich, tawny rye ale, then mellow it in the warmth of charred oak rye whiskey casks? Two kinds of malted rye provide spicy sweetness, giving way to notes of caramelized wood and the citrusy tang of Perle, Magnum, and Saphir hops before easing into a dry, lingering finish.

Style: Rye Beer (Barrel Aged)
Availability: 750ml bottles, corked & caged
