Westvleteren XII Hits Total Wine on 12/12/12

One of the most talked about beer releases in America in 2012 is upon us. Westvleteren XII, considered by some to be the #1 on planet earth will be released on U.S. soil for one time only. The Trappist quadrupel is usually only available at the monastery in Westvleteren, Belgium. Total Wine has announced this release will occur on 12.12.12, and available at Total Wine in the following states: Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, California and Nevada.

The Cloak Of St. Martin Debuts Next Week

Brasserie Brunehaut will launch a limited-edition Barleywine-style Belgian ale during the Great American Beer Festival next week –The Cloak of St. Martin. The Cloak is very unique quadrupel.

The Cloak of St. Martin is Brasserie Brunhaut’s first beer made using double fermentation. This was made possible thanks to new vats they installed earlier this year. The first round of fermentation makes a dark quadruple with Brunhaut’s house yeast dating back a few centuries. This round finishes at 9% ABV. For the second round of fermentation, the brewery uses a rare champagne yeast that bumps the beer to a whopping 13%. The Cloak is then cellared for 6 weeks, and then conditioning yeast is added. On October 10 at 4pm (during GABF), Brunehaut CEO Marc-Antoine De Mees will be at Falling Rock Tap House in  Denver, Colorado for the first U.S. pours.

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Candi Sugar)
Availability: 750 ml bottles, Draft. Limited
Arrival: Mid October, 2012

13% ABV

Lost Abbey Meets Iron Maiden In August Box Set Release

Lost Abbey Track 8

It’s August. That means the 8th release in The Lost Abbey’s Ultimate Box Set Series will be released. Each beer is a blend, or a one time creation, with a metal overtone. Track #8 is a bourbon barrel version of Judgement Day. (The base beer for Lost Abbey’s Cuvee de Tomme.) The rocking didn’t stop there.

The conversations turned to Oatmeal Raisin cookies and the essence of a freshly baked treat. So we added some cinnamon sticks to the barrels and threw in some dried chiles as well.

The result is sure to be big.Judgement Day is a quadrupel brewed with raisins. Bourbon, cinnamon, and chilies? Sold. You’ll only get this one at Lost Abbey (to drink on site) on August 18, 2012.  What’s in the name? Track #8 is named for Iron Maiden’s “Number of the Beast.”

Style: Quadrupel (w/ Raisins, Cinnamon, Chilies, Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12.7 oz bottles. One time release

13.7% ABV
