New Belgium Ships Cascara Quad with “Coffee Cherries”
Cascara Quad is one of two Lips of Faith offerings New Belgium launched here in early 2013. The quad uses dates and coffee cherries (the fruit of the coffee bean). Look for this and the collab with Dieu Du Ciel!, on shelves.
Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries.Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.
Sam Adams to Add “Tetravis” to Their Barrel Room Collection
Sam Adam’s latest creation, Tetravis, will be a barrel-aged Belgian quad that was proudly born in their barrel room alongside the rest of their Barrel Room Collection.
“Its deep complexity begins with a molasses sweetness with notes of dark fruits like raisin and fig and develop further with an undercurrent of tart spice from its distinctive Belgian yeast for a truly transfixing brew.”
Sounds like a great beer to put in the back of closet and age for a year or two.
To Øl will be shipping a new beer to the United States dubbed Fuck Art This Is Advertising. A Belgian Style Quadrubel?? Your guess is as good as mine. Nice animal pictures on the label. Michigan and Alabama hated the term “Bastard” and “Bitch” gracing labels. I’m sure this one won’t fly there.
Update 1/5: Two more editions in the “Fuck” Series
New Belgium Cascara Quad Takes Aim At Lips of Faith
Does a quadrupel ale with coffee, dates and cherries catch your attention? New Belgium Cascara Quad takes aim at the 2013 Lips Of Faith lineup. Interesting ingredients include the dried husk from coffee beans (cascara) used to make tea that is then blended into the beer.
Local roasters Novo Coffee turned us onto Central America’s Cascara, the fruit or husk that surrounds coffee beans. When dried, it can be made into a tea with hints of cherry and tobacco. Blend that into a quad fermented with gorgeous malts and date sugar for a crazy complex beer to warm winter nights.
As the world spirals towards its last days, it’s a perfect time for The Lost Abbey to tweak their Judgement Day recipe. The original recipe is a quadrupel brewed with raisins. The label features the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This edition features the Mayans. Dried chiles, cinnamon, and tamarind join raisins for this, the end of days.
Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus. The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is is scheduled for December 21, 2012for it has been so decreed our world is about end not in a Christian Judgement Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse.
Funny thing is. The Mayan’s don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried chiles. Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means, you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.
