Southern Tier Pumking Is On Shelves Now Too

If you were to ask me what one of the biggest anomalies/confusions to consumers in craft beer is, I’d say it would be pumpkin beers showing up in July. It makes perfect sense that people are a little confused too. It’s 90-100 degrees outside. You’re sunburned from the pool, football preseason is more than a month away. It’s grill weather not fall.

However, that doesn’t stop these beers (which typically are really popular) from hitting shelves.  Some of the most popular in the category -Terrapin’s Pumpkinfest, Weyerbacher’s Imperial Pumpkin Ale, and now Southern Tier’s Pumking are now available.

Most of these beers are big, 8% and higher so they will definitely keep until it feels right. Either way, just like the last three Julys – these big beers are here.

Style: Pumpkin Beer

Terrapin Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter Joins Reserve

Last year, Terrapin Beer Company (Athens, GA) started a limited release lineup they dubbed the “Reserve Series.” First offerings were new spins on classic brewery releases, including White Chocolate Moo-Hoo and Cinnamon Roll’d W-n-B.

In addition to both of those beers returning in limited quantity in 2014, a couple of new beers are joining the Reserve series this fall, including Terrapin Imperial Pumpkin Pie Porter. Loosely based on late summer seasonal, Pumpkinfest, this porter uses pumpkin and a big dose of pie seasonings.

Tired of the everyday pumpkin beer? At Terrapin, we’ve set out to make one with more character…a lot more character. Bring this great feast of a beer to your favorite fall gathering and share with everyone who attends. Brewed with a cornucopia of deep, rich malts that compliment a hearty fall meal, this spiced up Imperial Porter will have you asking for a second helping.

Coney Island Freaktoberfest, Completely Changed

Shmaltz Brewing Co. sold off the Coney Island line to Alchemy, a subsidiary of Samuel Adams last year. Distribution has been pulled back to basically New York, and the beer recipes, overhauled.

Coney Island Freaktoberfest used to be a “blood” red lager with a 6.66% ABV. This fall, it’s going pumpkin. Freaktoberfest 2014 will be a pumpkin ale brewed with spices and espresso beans from Cafe Grumpy in Brooklyn.

Freaktoberfest is a hauntingly complex, deep amber, pumpkin and espresso ale. Caramel aromas intermingle with hints of allspice and cinnamon. A roasted, rich body is highlighted by Brooklyn’s own Cafe Grumpy’s specially selected espresso beans, and is finished with sweet pumpkin.

Coney Island Freaktoberfest will be available in 12oz bottles, and presumably draft. Coney Island just released a new seasonal, Tunnel of Love Watermelon Wheat.

Style: Pumpkin Ale (w/ Espresso)
Availability: 12oz Bottles
Arrival: Fall, 2014
