Abita Bourbon Street Baltic Porter is the latest release in the brewery’s Bourbon Street Series. The baltic porter is 100% aged in bourbon barrels. This beer, or a rendition of it, was once a part of the Abita “Select” Series.
This Baltic Porter is brewed with pale, caramel and roasted malts. It is fermented at cooler temperatures to accentuate the malt flavors, which gives the beer its dark color and smooth, sweet roasted flavor. After fermentation the beer is cold aged for months before bourbon barrel aging begins.
Abita Bourbon Street Baltic Porter is available for a limited time in 22oz bottles. This release follows Abita Bourbon Street Imperial Stout, and Abita Macchiato Espresso Milk Stout. Coming soon: Abita Bourbon Street Maple Pecan.

“Barrel aging is all about timing. Knowing when the beer has reached its maximum potential and fullest flavor,” says Richardson. “We let this beer age for eight months in Cruzan rum barrels and it resulted in a smooth and slightly smoky beauty, with a rich and creamy finish.”
Quest Imperial Smoking Mirror Porter will be available in 750ml bottles on Saturday, January 10th. Bottles are $20 each, with a four bottle limit.
A third barrel-aged offering is planned to release in mid to late 2015.

New Belgium Brewing (Ft. Collins, CO) spring seasonal is now available.
New Belgium Portage Porter, is a tribute to Cache la Poudre River (a source for water for the brewery) which can get intense when the snow melts in spring. For that reason, kayakers and thrill seekers make Cache la Poudre a destination.
The name of the river means “Hide the powder” in French. There apparently was an incident in the 1820s when French trappers got caught in a snowstorm, and were forced to bury part of their gunpowder along the banks of the river.
Portage Porter takes the buoyant aromas of roasted coffee, chocolate and almonds, and steers them toward a silky-smooth mouthfeel, rolling one sip into another. This American porter rings true to traditional style expectations, with a New Belgium twist. Added American-style hops further the original rich, roasty complexity while keeping the hop bitterness in balance.
New Belgium Portage Porter is available in 12oz bottles and draft until March.
