Philly Beer Week Collab: Manneken-Penn

Brasserie De La Senne Manneken Penn

If you had any doubts before, don’t. Philadelphia IS one of America’s premiere beer cities. Tom Peters (Monk’s Cafe), Chris Wilson (Weyerbacher) traveled to Brussels (Still in Belgium) to brew with Yvan De Baets of Brasseries de La Senne.

Manneken-Penn is a 7.5% Belgo-American Dubbel whose name and label art were inspired by Philadelphia’s famed William Penn statue above City Hall, and Brussels’ landmark Manneken Pis sculpture of a playful naked boy — ahem — relieving himself.  Manneken-Penn was made with oats, molasses and a combination of American and European hops.  It is imported for PBW by Shelton Brothers and will be available both on draft and in 11.2 oz bottles

Style: Dubbel
Availability: 11.2 oz bottles, Draft
Arrival: 5/31/13

7.5% ABV

Dogfish Head Collaborates Overseas

For this collaboration, Dogfish Head traveled to England to work with Charles Wells.

Instead of taking ingredients and creating an entirely new product, the two combined parts of one of each of their already existing beers to form a true collaboration. Starting with a reduction of Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA, what Wells likes to call the “true DNA of the beer,” they  added this to one of their beers to create DNA New World IPA. The beer will be available in the UK on cask starting in April 2013 and is being re-brewed in the US to be released during Philly Beer Week in June.

Style: IPA
Arrival: June 2013

4.5% ABV

Lighter Shade Of Sierra Nevada Exclusive Brew

Lighter Shade Of Pale.  A song, and a draft only release emerging from Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp (#42.)  Lighter Shade of Pale is a “session” style American Pale Ale clocking in at a mere 4.2% abv.  Decisively lower than a lot of beers emerging these days.  Initially, (which is to say for now, who knows what the future brings) this pale ale one one of a few beers debuting at Philly Beer Week in June, 2011.

This pale ale is “triple hops brewed”  the real way, with Spalt, Challenger, & Crystal hops.  Light & pale malts round out this beer.   According to Sierra Nevada’s northeast rep, the first tapping is at Grace Tavern, 6/8/11, 6:30 pm.  <Philly Beer Week>
