Hi-Wire King Cake 10W-40, a Mardi Gras-themed imperial stout returns as February winds down.
2022 seems to be flying by already. It’s Mardi Gras, Lent starts on Wednesday, and you can almost see summer from here. While Hi-Wire Brewing’s 10W-40 Imperial Stout evolves constantly throughout the year, a few favorites to make seasonal appearances – namely the King Cake 10W-40 Imperial Stout.
Stating the obvious, the imperial stout mimics the famous New Orleans King Cake – basically, a coffee cake blended with a cinnamon roll, covered in Mardi Gras colors. The stout is specifically brewed with lactose, vanilla beans, cinnamon, coffee, and chocolate.
Hi-Wire King Cake 10W-40 Imperial Stout is available for a limited time in 16-ounce cans and draft.

Wild Leap Vanilla Ice Cream Stout, the brewery’s sixth new release in Summer 2019, debuts.
In keeping with the brewery’s line of ice cream themed beers (you shouldn’t have missed Bomb Pop Double IPA), LaGrange, Georgia based Wild Leap Brewing has released a new imperial milk stout, inspired by a big bowl of vanilla ice cream. According to the brewery, it’s the heaviest bodied beer Wild Leap has created to date.
The base is a boozy milk stout (brewed with lactose), and a heavy dose of vanilla. So much so, that the brewery’s CEO calls this release “high in decadence.” Wild Leap’s head brewer Chris Elliott used to work for Blue Bell Ice Cream, so the fusion of past and present jobs is sure to continue in future beers.

This series started with 10W-40 Imperial Stout, so named because the chocolate, coffee, and vanilla heavy stout pours like motor oil.
Never resting, Hi-Wire has released more variants of 10W-40, including Horchata, German Chocolate Cake, and even a Barrel-aged 10W-40. This beer is quickly becoming a state “stout icon”.
Up next – Salted Maple 10W-40. This edition takes the imperial stout base and combines maple syrup, pink sea salt, vanilla beans, chocolate, and lactose milk sugar. Sounds like a chocolatey salt maple candy.
Hi-Wire Salted Maple 10W-40 will be available in limited 16-ounce cans on Friday, March 8th.
New Holland Dragon’s Milk Reserve Oatmeal Cookie, a new variant on the year-round barrel-aged imperial stout is on the horizon.
A few years ago the brewery starting brewing up variations of their well-loved barrel-aged imperial stout, Dragon’s Milk. To date, we’ve seen versions like Chocolate Orange, Banana Coconut, and even Smores. Now it looks like an Oatmeal Cookie variant is on the way.
If history tells us anything, expect cinnamon, cloves oats, and even raisin flavors, complimenting the vanilla and chocolate background of Dragon’s Milk.

More pastry stouts. Monday Night Fistful of Cake is coming to the brewery’s Westside Atlanta location on March 8th.
You should know what a pastry stout is by now. In this case, this release is inspired by opera cake, a French dessert known for its layers of chocolate and coffee. The chocolate in this beer comes from the malt, the coffee from local roaster Batdorf and Bronson, and a “budget-breaking” amount of vanilla beans.
Look for Monday Night Fistful of Cake in 16-ounce cans at the brewery on March 8th, hitting limited distribution shortly after.

Pontoon Brewing Brownie Batter, the first batch of a new pastry stout series, debuts at the brewery this week.
This beer is the beer equivalent of putting your finger into a bowl of brownie batter. This chocolate forward beer is touted as smooth and creamy (thanks to lactose) with hints of vanilla in the finish. It’s big – 13.1% alcohol by volume.
Pontoon Brewing Brownie Batter Batch #1 is available now in the brewery’s taproom.
