Spotlight: Bronx Pale Ale, the brewery’s flagship can

In the fall of 2011, Bronx, New York saw the first brewery in 50 years – Bronx Brewery. One of New York’s smallest breweries has a focus you might not expect. Pale Ales.

For the last few years, Beer Street Journal has covered their releases, and today, a small care package from Bronx Brewery showed up at our office. It’s time to see what we’ve been writing about.

Bronx Pale Ale is the brewery’s flagship beer. Described as an English pale ale meets American hops. After tasting it – have to say we agree. If you were to mix the malt structure of an EPA with the aggressiveness of American hops, you have Bronx Pale Ale.

Our flagship: a bold American pale ale with an English backbone.  Think driving a ’64 Mustang over London Bridge.  This is the beer we drink when hanging out after a hard day at the brewery.

Bronx Pale Ale is a year-round offering, in 12 ounce cans and draft.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: Centennial, Cascade
Malts: Muntons Marris Otter, Weyerman’s Caramunich 1, Baird Crystal 70/80, Briess Vienna, Victory, Aromatic

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round

6.3% ABV, 50 IBUS

Bronx Brewery On the Black covered in B-Sides series

Bronx Brewery On the Black, joins the brewery’s B-Side Series line this month. This is the second release in the series.

As the name suggests, Bronx Brewery On the Black pours dark, a pale ale rendition of the black IPA.

The beer is a complex, yet light and smooth pale ale with a hint of chocolate, perfectly balanced by tropical fruit influenced hop flavors and aromas.

The B-Sides series is a nod New York’s Bronx borough’s hip-hop roots and musical influence. The first release in the series was in September, El Serrano Red IPA.

Bronx Brewery On the Black is a draft only offering, available during the coming winter months.

Style: Pale Ale
Hops: El Dorado, Citra

Availability: Draft only
Distribution: NYC, New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester, NY

New Belgium to launch two gluten reduced beers in January

New Belgium Brewing (Ft Collins, CO) is releasing two gluten reduced ales for the first time in January, 2016. The series is called Glutiny Ales.

Glütiny Golden Ale and Glütiny Pale Ale are both brewed using an enzyme to break down the proteins that trigger a reaction from gluten sensitive drinkers. Therefore, these beers are being referred to as “gluten removed” instead of gluten free. The beers fall within the FDA guidelines of less than 20 parts per million.

New Belgium Glütiny Golden Ale is brewed with Nugget, Goldings, and Cascade hops. 5.2% ABV

New Belgium Glütiny Pale Ale features Equinox hops, for flavors of guava and papaya. 6% ABV, 30 IBUs.

Both gluten reduced offerings will be available year-round in 12 ounce bottles/6 packs in January, 2016
