Bridgeport Debuts “Enchanted” This Week

Oregon’s oldest craft brewery Bridgeport Brewing unveils a new, limited brew this week for the Great American Beer Festival. They took the 2012 edition of Stumptown Tart, a fruit beer beer with 2,000 lbs of raspberries and aged it in oak barrels for two years. The result, a blend: 50% Belgian tripel aged in wine barrels for a year, 50% raspberry Belgian tripel.

“This is a special one for our team,” commented brewmaster, Jeff Edgerton. “The 2010 Stumptown Tart was a favorite not only amongst our loyal BridgePort fans — but also amongst our brewers. The only way to up the ante on that beer was to let it age in oak barrels for two years. The result is something surprising and pretty unforgettable.”

Style: Framboise (w/ Raspberries, Wine Barrel Aged)

Cigar City Moat Water celebrates Skatepark Of Tampa’s 20th Anniversary. Moat is a milk stout aged on maple veneers with vanilla beans and coffee.

This beer was created through a unique partnership involving three Tampa, Florida natives: Cigar City Brewing, Skatepark of Tampa, and PS Stix. The Canadian mapale wood veneers used in the aging process at Cigar City were then added  into SPoT’s 20 Year Anniversary desks built by PS Stix. Moat Water is the product of a collaboration that represents quality, a vested interest in the Tampa community, and most importantly, love of skateboarding. 

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Vanilla Beans, Coffee Beans, Maple Wood Veneers)

More Cigar City Humidor IPA Released Today

Cigar City is packaging another round of Humidor IPA today. Bottles will be on sale in the tasting room in Tampa, Florida and distribution shortly after. The IPA is aged on Spanish cedar, the same kind of wood that lines cigar boxes.

Jester King Creates Buddha’s Brew, A Sour Kombucha Beer

Jester King (Austin, TX) has created a new collaboration beer with a local Kombucha tea maker to create Buddha’s Brew. Kombucha is basically sweetened tea, fermented with Kombucha culture. The culture contains much of the same yeasts (brettanomyces, saccromyces) that beer uses.

This is the first time that Jester King fermented a beer entirely in oak. They took sweet wort (just after the boil) and put it into oak barrels, and inoculated it with souring bacteria. After 9 months of aging, JK blended it with live Kombucha culture from Buddha’s Brew Kombucha. The beer is naturally carbonated, thanks to bottle refermentation. (The yeast in the bottle creates CO2.)
