The Bruery is now offering Sourrento, a sour ale inspired by the spirit Limoncello, to their Reserve and Preservation Society members.

Sourrento is a sour ale that was inspired by the lemon flavored spirt, Limoncello, which hails from the city of Sorrento, Italy. To create this unique, sweetly sour flavor, we aged our sour blonde ale with both lemon zest and fresh vanilla beans. The resulting beer is somewhere between a classic sour ale, a delightful Italian apertif, and a lemon meringue pie.

The Bruery Sourrento is available in 750ml bottles, for $16.99.

Style: Sour/Wild Ale (w/ Lemon Zest, Vanilla Beans. Oak Aged)

Jester King Colour Five Releases on Halloween

Jester King Brewery (Austin, TX) will release Colour Five on Halloween. Colour Five is a blend of barrel aged sour beer with Texas blueberries.

The first attempt at this blueberry barrel aged sour beer failed in 2013. That batch was too vinegary (i.e. too much acetic acid.) The brewery decided to do something different for Colour Five.

This batch is 89% Das Uberkind, and 11% RU55. (The failed batch was all RU55 Sour Red.) The blueberries were frozen prior to refermentation to stave off acetobacter (makes acetic acid) and was allowed to ferment in stainless steel, where the brewery can push away oxygen (again, inhibiting acetobacter.) These steps (simplified for the story) helped Jester King bring Colour Five to fruition.

Jester King Colour Five will be available when the brewery opens at 4pm. By the glass, or 500ml bottles. ($16)

Style: American Wild Ale/Sour Ale (w/ Blueberries. Oak Aged.)
Availability: 500ml bottles, Draft. 2,000 bottles produced.
Release: 10/31/14

7.1% ABV

Firestone Walker El Gourdo Coming to Barrelworks

Firestone Walker’s Barrelworks will release El Gourdo in November, 2013. The beer got its start last year, when a local pumpkin patch ask the brewery to take in orphaned Cinderella pumpkins.

The pumpkins were fire roasted with bay leaf and walnuts, in an oven fueled by brandy and white oak staves. 500 pounds of the roasted pumpkins were added to the base beer blend to ferment and oak age for nearly a year.

…The resulting beer is subtle yet firm. Roasting releases naturally sweet spicy pumpkin, brown sugar, and nutty flavors and aromas, which mingle nicely with an earthy funk, toasted oak and assertive acidity.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Pumpkin, Walnuts, Bay Leaf. Oak Aged)
Availability: 375ml Bottles, Draft. Limited
Arrival: November, 2014

5.8% ABV, 5 IBUs
