Final Ingredient Selected for Dogfish American Beauty
After nearly 1500 submissions to Dogfish Head’s American Beauty contest (beer inspired by the Grateful Dead) a winner has been selected. The winner, Thomas Butler, shared the story of his first Dead concert involving his dad throwing him over the fence to skirt admission, wet t-shirt clad ladies, and shared ‘cigarettes’ as well as he and his father’s love of brewing beer. His ingredient suggestion? Granola.
Granola as it was a staple ingredient in many shared parking lot meals at Dead shows. Plus the components of granola make for a great addition to beer. In May, Thomas will join Sam and Grateful Dead audiovisual archivist David Lemieuxbrew a test batch of American Beauty with granola.
The production batch is expected to hit taps and shelves throughout Dogfish’s 27-state distribution network in October 2013.
Style: Imperial Pale Ale (w/ Granola)
Availability: 22oz bottles
Arrival: October 2013

Iron Maiden to Create Beer [VIDEO]
Who knew that Iron Maiden was a fan of traditional English cask beer? Now THAT’S metal! In conjunction with Robinson’s Brewery in the UK Iron Maiden has created Trooper Ale which should be available in May. There’s no official word yet whether or not this will hit the US. Start crossing your fingers now.
“I’m a lifelong fan of traditional English ale; I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when we were asked to create our own beer. I have to say that I was very nervous — Robinsons are the only people I have had to audition for in 30 years. Their magic has been to create the alchemical wedding of flavor and texture that is Trooper. I love it.” – Bruce Dickinson, Iron Maiden lead singer

Mikkeller Jams Out with Ring Them Bells
Mikkeller teams up with up-and-coming Danish band Ring Them Bells to bring you a coffee porter appropriately named Ring Them Bells. With the purchase of your bottle you receive a download code for their mp3, but unless you enjoy getting Rick Rolled I would advise against attempting to redeem it. The label, which some have described as ‘creepy’, features artwork from Ring Them Bell’s first single.
P.S. Have you heard Ring Them Bells’s first single I Ride Alone? It’s definitely worth a listen!
