Full Sail Session Lager is making a move to cans. One of America’s original session beers is about to go anywhere.

The “stubby” bottles you’ve seen for years are downright iconic now. The perfect session beer has a perfect, palm size bottle, but glass has its limitations. When you see that bottle, you think Full Sail.

As much as we love Full Sail Session Lager at Beer Street Journal, but when pool season rolls around bottles get benched. Not this summer. After 12 years you”ll finally be reaching for a Session can. The best part? The coveted 15 packs.

Jailhouse Brewing The Badge, a hoppy can drops in March

Expect Jailhouse Brewing The Badge in March. The Hampton, Georgia based brewery is adding a second canned offering.

The Badge actually started with The Jury, Jailhouse’s imperial pilsner. The brewing team was trying to grow enough yeast to make the pilsner, and for fun, created a hoppy lager.  The result was dubbed The Badge and became a crowd favorite from day one.

On release day, Jailhouse gave away free six-packs to licensed public safely officials as a way of saying thank you.

In March, The Badge will go into full production for the first time.

Badge tickles all the senses with complex aromas and flavors but if you’re not looking to tear it down into individual layers you’ll find its’ juicy, fruity, hop aromas and hint of lager-crisp cleanliness pleasing to the pallet. Unlike having cuffs slapped on your taste buds from a lockdown of flavors in some India-style beers, Badge leaves your senses alert and in.

Jailhouse Brewing The Badge will be available on draft, and 12 ounce cans sometime in March.

Full Sail Session has iconic status in our book. The stubby bottled lager has a beer identity all its own. This winter it is joined by fruitier option –  Full Sail Session Black Cherry Black.

A few years ago, the Hood River, Oregon brewery added Session Black to the lineup. The year-round black lager is known for its roasty chocolate flavors. Starting this month, you can throw cherries into the mix.

Full Sail Session Black Cherry Black uses Session Black as the base beer, plus a dash of dark cherry flavor. The result is what the brewery describes as a cherry cordial.

This new Session is Session Black with a cherry on top – actually, it’s more like a cherry cordial without the brandy. The aroma and flavor of cherry complements the smooth chocolate character of this dark lager.” – Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter

Full Sail Session Black Cherry Black is available in 12 ounce bottles in the Session Series 12 Pack, and Session Mashup Variety Pack through April, 2017.

More amazing artwork from Hi-Wire Brewing in new 12 pack

Asheville, North Carolina’s Hi-Wire Brewing has been absolutely killing it with the artwork. Don’t believe us? See Hi-Wire 10W-40 Imperial Stout. Coming in February is some more awesome artwork, found in the Hi-Wire Collaboration 12-Pack. If you’ve ever used a can of spray paint, or stepped foot in the paint section of a hardware store, you’ll find something familiar with this branding.

It has been a while since Hi-Wire has been able to collaborate with other breweries, thanks to the time it has taken to get settled in with their new production facility. When time opened up on the production schedule, they opted to go big.

The mixed pack features Hi-Wire teamed up with NOLA Brewing, Holy City Brewing (Charleston, SC), and Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (Richmond, VA), each creating three unique beers.

NOLA Brewing’s collaboration, Pimm’s Berliner Weisse, is based on the New Orlean’s favorite Pimm’s Cup drink. A Berliner Weisse brewed with juniper berries, orange peel, and cucumber. 4.2% ABV

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and Hi-Wire created Oatmeal Brown Ale, brewed with honey and black currants, 5% ABV.

Holy City co-owner Jeff Moreadith is a lover of lighter beers, as well as an Asheville resident. Together, they created Carolina Coastal Black Rye Lager using Seashore Black Rye, a malt grown outside Charleston, South Carolina.

The 12-pack will be rounded out with Hi-Wire’s flagship beers: Hi-Pitch Mosaic IPA, Hi-Wire Lager, and Hi-Wire Gose.

Look for Hi-Wire Collaboration 12-pack throughout the brewery’s entire distribution footprint in mid-February, 2017.

Celebrating Oregon, Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager debuts

Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager launches year-round this month.

Around 60 years ago, “Pacific Wonderland” started showing up on license plates in Oregon to celebrate the state’s 100th birthday. A very fitting name for a beautiful state full of great views and great beers. Deschutes thought that kind of beauty and wonderment needed a beer that captures the adventure.

in the spirit of Oregon comes Deschutes Pacific Wonderland, a sessionable lager that debuts this month. The 5.5% alcohol by volume beer features Hallertau Herkules, Hallertau Mettelfruh and Tettnang Mandarina hops. It’s the dry-hopping that really makes this special.

 “When we set out to create Pacific Wonderland, we wanted to capture the diverse spirit of Oregon in a single beer that we could share with everyone. Our team explored something a little different, creating a lager by style and then dry hopping it to make something unique – just like our home state.” – Deschutes brewmaster, Veronica Vega

The label depicts the “endlessly diverse adventures” available in Oregon, across all seasons.

Deschutes Pacific Wonderland Lager is available in 12 ounce bottles and draft starting in January, 2017. 12 packs to follow in the spring.

Cigar City El Coco (a tropical coconut flan ale)

A new nitro pour lager is hitting taps this month – Cigar City El Coco, a tropical coconut flan ale.

This release is inspired by a past collaboration with Chicago’s 5 Rabbit Cerveceria El Bizarrón, a porter brewed with caramelized plantains. In keeping with the beer-meets-Latin food theme, comes a El Coco, inspired by the brewery’s favorite dessert – flan.

Dulce de leche and coconut help create this nitro lager. Expect tropical flavors like coconut in each sip. The name – El Coco, is for a mythical bogeyman in Latin folklore by the same name. Legend has it that parents in Spain and Latin America invoke Coco to discourage children from misbehaving, otherwise he will eat you.

Coconut milk and brown sugar aromas mingle with cinnamon and nutmeg in the aroma of this assertively aromatic tropical ale. Flavors of coconut flan, bread crust and allspice are supported by a full body enhanced by dispense on a nitrogen line, creating a true dessert beer that eschews sweetness for balance and harmony.

Samuel Adams Fresh as Helles coming in March

Samuel Adams Fresh As Helles, a new lager, will join the brewery’s lineup March, preceded by new seasonal Hopscape.

In the fall of 2016, the Boston, Massachusetts brewer created the first batches of Samuel Adams Fresh As Helles. The lager features Mandarina hops, and orange blossom petals.

In a special breakfast during this year’s Great American Beer Festival, Jim Koch introduced Fresh As Helles to a small group of attendees. The malt-forward boasts notes of honey and orange citrus. A winter seasonal, the citrus in the is beer will remind you that spring is not far behind.

Fresh as Helles is a refreshing light amber, medium-bodied helles brewed with Mandarina hops and orange blossom petals. The beer’s lively, citrus flavors pair perfectly with the changing season. Soft citrus notes of orange blossom add a bright accent to the slightly sweet honey malt notes, leading to a round, smooth finish.

Samuel Adams Fresh As Helles will be a 12 ounce bottle, can, and draft release starting in March instead of February.
