Ska Mexican Logger seasonal release marks 20 years

Ska Mexican Logger

It may not look like spring in Durango, Colorado, but the return of Ska Mexican Logger means it’s close.

While Mexican lagers have increased in popularity in recent years, Ska Brewing has been releasing this beer since 1999. That’s longer than half the craft breweries in the United States have been around. The brewery touts this as Colorado’s first craft lager in a can when it hit aluminum in 2011.

The 5% alcohol by volume lager is brewed with a lager yeast strain from Mexico City – the same strain that also ferments Ska’s Rue B. Soho Grapefruit.

Crisp, clean, and refreshing — made for hot afternoons with a side of lime.

Ska Mexican Logger is available in 12-ounce cans and draft from March 20th through Summer 2019.

Style: Vienna Lager
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft Seasonal Release.
Distribution: Colorado, Arizona, Southern California, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Utah.

Winemaker 19 Crimes launches new beer lineup stateside

19 Crimes Beer

19 Crimes, the Australian winemakers with the augmented reality labels, are launching 19 Crimes Beer in the United States.

The wine debuted in the United States 6 years ago, and is now a staple in pretty much every grocery store you step foot in. According to Michelle Terry, CMO or Treasure Wine Estates, the company noticed a duality between wine drinkers and craft beer drinkers. “We know that our 19 Crimes wine lovers also highly index as consumers of craft beer. There is so much opportunity with this brand, and our retailers and customers have been asking us to expand into other alcohol beverages.”

Three styles of 19 Crimes beers are ready with the initial launch – 19 Crimes Pilsner, 19 Crimes IPA, and 19 Crimes Lager. All three styles are brewed at Sleeping Giant Brewery in Denver, Colorado.

Each of the cans portray the familiar characters on the labels, complete with augmented reality stories through the Living Wine labels phone app. The stories on the wine and the beer are the same.

19 Crimes Beer will launch first in Ohio. Expect more states before the close of 2019.

O’Connor Brewing’s new Proper Lager is simply “fantastic”

O'Connor Proper Lager

Norfolk, Virginia based O’Connor Brewing Company has released a new year-round beer into their 8 year old lineup – Proper Lager. A lighter beer that’s needed an IPA and adjunct heavy industry.

For the better part of 2018, O’Connor Brewing was perfecting the recipe, brewing process and launch of this new year-rounder. A lager is a beer you have to get right. There aren’t dark malts, barrel aging or pounds of vanilla beans or fruit to cover up any missteps in the brewing process.

Proper Lager is a helles-style lager, brewed properly according to O’Connor. Helles-style lagers are German pale lager beers (with pilsners, and Dortmund Export styles). Helles in German translates to bright, or light. Incidentally, that description is perfect for this new lager. It’s every bit a bright, crisp and clean beer, that’s impossible to put down.

Without digging deep into the thesaurus, Proper Lager is simply fantastic.

O’Connor Proper Lager is one of seven flagship beers available year-round, in Virginia, Washington D.C., and parts of North Carolina. Available in 12-ounce cans and draft.

Style: Helles Lager
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-Round.
Debut: February 2019

This time it’s not an IPA. Stone Tropic of Thunder Lager debuts nationally

Stone Tropic of Thunder Lager

From one of the most popular purveyors of hops comes something a little different this month – a lager. Stone Tropic of Thunder Lager ships nationally this week.

Citra and Mosaic and rising star Cashmere are the hop stars of this craft lager, which boasts flavors of pineapple, citrus and coconut. In their descriptions, Stone wants you to think of this lager as a desert island beer.

Mainstays Citra & Mosaic along with newcomer Cashmere hops are joined by their juicy tropical aromas of citrus, pineapple and coconut (try stringing all that together in a catchy tune). The rescue ship will find you all soon enough. For now, set aside the non-working cell phone and lack of social media (again, work with us here), kick back and revel in your moment of tropical island lagoon serenity.

Stone Tropic of Thunder Lager is available in 12-ounce cans and draft nationally starting in January 2019.

Style: Lager
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Cashmere
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut (Nationally): January 2019

Arches Brewing Triboulet

Arches Brewing Triboulet, an India pale lager debuts on Friday.

Arches Brewing Triboulet is the brewery’s first hop-forward lager, a blend of lager yeast and modern (IPA) hopping techniques. Per the brewery, the end result is “a balanced hoppy lager with juicy bitterness and a crisp finish. Flaked high-protein grains add a slight haze and smooth mouthfeel.”

Creature Comforts to debut Classic City Lager year-round in October

Creature Comforts Classic City Lager

Creature Comforts Classic City Lager is coming in October. Named for the brewery’s hometown of Athens, Georgia.

As expected of the style, Classic City Lager described as a “clean, crisp, and easy-drinking lager” by the brewery. The 4.2% alcohol by volume, easy-drinking beer should be pretty approachable by all beer drinkers. “There are so many options to choose from and we wanted to make a beer that is perfect for those who enjoy drinking a lower ABV pale lager. Classic City Lager is simply good cold beer,” says co-founder and head brewery David Stein.

The can’s typography was created by Athens artist Chris Collins.
