Count Chocula Beer Set to Return

Black Bottle Brewery will re-release their Count Chocula beer again, in time for the Great American Beer Festival.

The base beer is a milk stout, that is steeped in more that 40 pounds of the seasonal cereal, in a process similar to dry-hopping.

You’ll find this beer by the name of Black Bottle Cerealiously, which has also has featured Cinnamon Toast Crunch. In 2014, the brewery drove all over their Fort Collins, Colorado hometown and bought up all the Count Chocula. The shortage made local news.

This year, General Mills sent the brewery their own allocation of The Count, so Fort Collins won’t go without. Interestingly enough, this isn’t General Mills only cereal beer. This month they divulged they have partnered with Fulton Beer on Hefewheaties, a hefeweizen.

Black Bottle Cerealiously is a 22 ounce bottle offering that you’ll only find local to Fort Collins.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Lactose. Count Chocula Cereal)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft. Limited:
Return: September, 2015

Stone Xocoveza Extra Anejo Released in Quingenti Series

Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, CA) released a collaboration – Xocoveza Mocha Stout last year. The beer was a creation of home brewer Chris Banker, who brewed with not only the Stone team, but Cerveceria Insurgente from Mexico.

Stone Xocoveza Extra Anejo will grace the brewery’s coveted Quingente Millilitre Series, a souped-up version of the original release. In addition to the cocoa, coffee, peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg that was added to Xocoveza Mocha Stout, Stone has aged this edition in both red wine barrels and tequila barrels.

The base beer is the recipe of 2014 Stone Homebrew Competition winner Chris Banker, an intensely flavorful milk stout brewed with coffee and spices to mimic the rich flavors of Mexican hot chocolate.

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) Releases July 15th

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) releases July 15th. A special collaboration with Hawkshead Brewery based in the United Kingdom.

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) is part of the Tran-Atlantic Rainbow Project, a series that challenges brewers to brew a beer inspired by a color. To create Key Lime Tau, the brewery created a mixed culture fermentation wild ale, aged in oak with lactose, fresh lime peel, and lemongrass.

“Key Lime Tau is a riff on a friend of ours’ beer Limoncello. We decided to put our own spin on a Limoncello and it came out very much like a Key Lime Pie,” said Yakobson. “We chose to call this beer Key Lime Tau as ‘tau’ is mathematically 2π and since the collaboration was brewed at both Hawkshead and Crooked Stave, two versions exist making it two Pies.”

Crooked Stave Key Lime Tau (2π) will be available in their taproom at 3350 Brighton Blvd at 6 pm on July 15th.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Lemongrass, Lime Peel, Lactose. Oak Aged)

Left Hand De’Nile Coffee Ale, For Old Chicago

Left Hand Brewing (Longmont, CO) currently has a coffee ale in select Old Chicago Restaurants across the United States. The beer debuted in early February.

Left Hand De’Nile Coffee Ale is a collaboration with Allegro Coffee, and the brewery’s Ro Guenzel. The team selected Allegro’s Blue Nile Blend coffee to nuance Left Hand’s base beer, brewed with lactose.

First, Allegro’s Blue Nile BLEND coffee was hand-selected due to its intense berry and spice notes. Then, a unique recipe was created in order to best compliment the characteristics of the coffee. The result is a burnished, copper-colored brew with a white head that is the perfect equilibrium of maple, chocolate and coffee with a medium mouthfeel and a citrus aroma from Caliente and Amarillo hops.

Left Hand De’Nile Coffee Ale is available now at Old Chicago Restaurants (locator in new window) and the the brewery’s tap room.

The Bruery OR XATA, a Horchata Inspired Seasonal

The Bruery (Placentia, CA) is just launched a new nationally distributed, seasonal release, OR XATA. The new offering is based on horchata, a Spanish/Latin American milky drink, made from crushed almonds or rice.

The Bruery OR XATA is a base blonde ale, brewed with rice, cinnamon, vanilla beans and lactose, to give the beer a creamy mouthfeel.

Horchata is a traditional, sweet, milky drink originating in Spain and Latin America that has become quite popular in Southern California, particularly with Mexican cuisine. Our take on the traditionally non-alcoholic drink is a blonde ale brewed with a heavy dosing of rice, cinnamon and fresh vanilla beans along with lactose for a litle extra creamy character. If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was carbonated horchata. The flavor is hard to describe, but for those who know it, you know you love it.

The Bruery OR XATA is available in 750ml bottles.

Style: Blonde Ale (w/ Cinnamon, Vanilla Beans, Lactose.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles.
Release: February, 2015
