Natty Greene’s Elm Street Launches in April

Natty Greene’s Elm Street English-style IPA will join the brewery’s lineup starting in April. The traditional English-style is named for the for the street where the original brewhouse is located. The silo on the label is still on Elm Street.

Like a Traditional English IPA, Elm Street has a strong maltiness that is accented by an earthy, herbal hop note. Its malt forward character is preserved and highlighted by using a London-style yeast. Natty Greene’s adds their American touch by dry hopping the brew with three Oregon varieties. Unlike the herbal-note hops used by the Brits, Oregon hops give a fruitier flavor and peach-like tone that, added with the malt profile, create a well-rounded and refined IPA.

Natty Green’s Elm Street hits distribution the first week of April. Expect it on tap until June.

Style: English-style IPA
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Spring seasonal

Half Acre Space IPA Bottled for 1st Time

Half Acre Space IPA joins the brewery’s lineup on March 27th. The recently draft-only beer is getting a temporary upgrade to 22oz bottles.

Half Acre Space IPA is citra hop forward IPA, brewed for a brewery friend that is no longer with us.

We brew this beer in honor of a Half Acre friend that passed.  Space was his nickname as a blazing young man. In his older years, he found himself teamed up with two Siberian Huskies.  Not a family man, he hung with his Huskies, Moon and Luna, as equals.  He’d usually come to our brewery after lunch time, Moon and Luna in his jeep, chew the fat for a while and pick up some beer.  He’d take off to grab tacos or Pizza for all three of them and then they’d head home for an easy night…

Half Acre Space IPA will be available in 22oz bottles starting March 27th, $8.99.

Style: IPA
Hops: Citra
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft

Release: 3/27/15

21st Amendment Down to Earth Session IPA Replaces Bitter American

21st Amendment Down to Earth Session IPA sets its hoppy sights on cans. The 4.4% alcohol by volume (ABV) session-style IPA joins the lineup as we roll into April..

The brewery believes that Down to Earth Session IPA is a natural progression of the bold flavor, low ABV style. For that reason, the brewery is eliminating Bitter American from their lineup.

“Down to Earth has all the great malt backbone of Bitter American but just as Ham’s story evolved, so has this Session IPA. I had fun mixing up the hops and flavor profile,” said Brewmaster O’Sullivan. “We added several late additions and capped it with Mosaic and Centennial dry hops, two of my favorites. Both are amazing and the combination is over the top hop goodness.”

21st Amendment Down To Earth Session IPA is now available in 12oz cans and draft, year-round.

Style: IPA
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Distribution: CA, OR, WA, AK, ID, MN, OH, ME, NH, VT, RI, MA, NY, NJ, DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, GA, NV, NC. Soon: NH, IL

Oskar Blues & DC Brau “Smells Like Freedom” Smells Like Weed

Oskar Blues Brewery and DC Brau have definitely made a statement with their newest beer, Smells Like Freedom. What does it smell like? Weed.

Smells Like Freedom is a tribute to Initiative 71 that legalized marijuana in Washington D.C. in late February. It is now legal to possess and grow pot in the district, yet it cannot be bought or sold.

The two brewery team came up with IPA that contains a mix of hops that smells like fresh cannabis.

Both Oskar Blues and DC Brau brewed Smells Like Freedom at their breweriesA majority of the release is draft, the cans are exclusive to Washington D.C.

Smells Like Freedom debuted at a special party in the nation’s capital on March 17th.

New Belgium Oatmeal IPA, a Half Acre Collaboration

New Belgium Oatmeal IPA joins the brewery’s Hop Kitchen Series, a collaboration with Chicago’s Half Acre Beer Company.

The idea to create Oatmeal IPA started about four years ago when New Belgium’s brewmaster Peter Bouckaert visited Half Acre. This collab actually turned out to be two beers, the first dating back to 2013 with Avoine IPA.

Avione (which means “oats”) was an “oat-spiked” IPA that was only available in Chicago on draft. Those who have had it, consider that a teaser beer for what Oatmeal IPA has become.

This 2015 release is honey-hued with a velvety mouthfeel that offers brilliant pine, grass and guava courtesy of Citra and Centennial dry-hopping. Oatmeal IPA is ultra-tropical and appears softer than the traditional IPA, but be warned – lurking beneath the smooth oats and toasted malts, are vibrant hops with a bitter bite.

New Belgium Oatmeal IPA is a wider release, but draft only.

Style: IPA
Hops: Citra, Centennial
Malts: Oatmeal, ???

Availability: Draft only
