More Fruit: 21st Amendment Brew Free or Die Blood Orange IPA ships

21st Amendment Brew Free or Die Blood Orange IPA. The name pretty much speaks for itself.

Fruited India pale ales are very much on fire. Consumers have voted with their dollar- they love citrusy IPAs. That’s why Brew Free or Die Blood Orange IPA, a variant of their year-round beer, is now available in cans. The San Francisco, California based brewery has been developing this recipe for more than a year.

“Blood oranges were a totally new ingredient for us, and it was a lot of fun to play around with different approaches of where to add it into the process, and how much.” The result? A tangy, thirst-quenching, IPA with distinct flavors. “We want craft beer drinkers to understand that while this is a new and totally different beer, it has a great lineage, but when you crack open that can and get that first whiff of blood orange and hops… Oh man, it’s a thing of beauty.” – Shaun O’Sullivan, Brewmaster & Co-Founder

The base recipe is built off of the brewery’s’ year-round Brew Free or Die IPA with Citra, Mosaic, and Chinook hops, at 2.5 pounds more per barrel. Plus blood orange of course.

Pineappley SweetWater Goin’ Coastal is back. PERMANENTLY.

Atlanta’s headiest brewery has dropped their hoppy pineapple offering once again. This time, it’s sticking around indefinitely. SweetWater Goin’ Coastal won’t be fading with the fall this year.

In case you haven’t tried a cocoction of this variety yet, pineapple works quite well with the citrusy/tropical hops of an American IPA. Especially since SweetWater is doing the hopping. This beer is heavy on the citrus and fruity hops, with a tropical breeze of pineapple. Find water and sit your ass in a tube and take stock of your life. The demand for this island breeze of a beer has prompted SweetWater to keep this beer in the lineup all year long.

Slide into summer and step off the grid by Goin’ Coastal with this pineapple laced IPA. The bright aromas of the five citrus hop additions are accentuated by the tropical fruit of the pineapple- and just like those three day weekends, its finish is quick.

SweetWater Goin’ Coastal will be a 12 ounce bottle and 16 ounce can offering. Back on shelves for a second season in March, 2017.

California berries: Anchor Blackberry Daze IPA

Anchor Blackberry Daze IPA debuts in the California based brewery’s lineup as February draws to a close.

Let’s face it. Fruited India pale ales are here to stay. So much so that some of America’s largest and most respected breweries have added a fusion of hops and fruit to their year-round lineup. Now it is Anchor’s turn.

Anchor Blackberry Daze is brewed with Cali-grown blackberries, added during secondary fermentation. The brewery expects this beer to have ripe fruit flavors, and an underlying hop bitterness that plays nicely with tartness from the blackberries.

“When using fruit in an IPA, we want something that stands up to and also pairs nicely with the hops. Blackberries uniquely compliment the hops, rather than contrast with them. We add some fruit to the brewkettle towards the end of the boil, giving the beer a nice berry jam aroma. Then we add fresh berries in the cellar, imparting a sharp tartness that compliments the beer’s hoppy flavors… – Scott Ungermann, Anchor Brewmaster

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp East Meets West IPA, featuring Tree House Brewing

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp East Meets West IPA will be a part of this years “Beer Camp Around the World” when it debuts later this year.

In 2017, Sierra Nevada is taking their famed Beer Camp internationally, collaborating with both selected American brewers, and some of the world’s best. Stateside, Massachusetts based Tree House Brewing Company has been  selected.

Sierra Nevada is famous for the west coast IPA. If you wanted to point fingers at breweries responsible for the hazy, “New England Style” IPA, at least one finger would be pointed at Tree House. Perhaps that’s what makes this future collaboration so interesting. Clarity meets hazy. East Coast meets West Coast. Think of it like turning on a humidifier and dehumidifier at the same time. You’d think it would cause a rip in the space-time continuum.

In just a few short years, Tree House has made made a big impact on the beer scene with their approach to the IPA – low bitterness, intense juicy hop flavor and unfiltered haze. As fellow lovers of the IPA, we combined our styles – the classic American IPA malt body and the New England approach to hopping- resulting in lightly bitter, unfiltered beer with huge hop flavor.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp East Meets West IPA will be a part of both the Beer Camp Variety Pack, and pouring at various Beer Camp festivals later this year.
