New Realm Hoplandia IPA will soon hit distro

New Realm Hoplandia IPA won’t be a draft-only offering much longer. The brewery is canning the flagship offering this month.

Atlanta, Georgia based New Realm Brewing opened their doors on the city’s beltline in January. In a few short weeks, Hoplandia IPA is assuming the role of “flagship status” already.

TAKE A LOOK INSIDE NEW REALM BREWING

Mitch Steele hails from the hoppy American West Coast, making that influence undeniable in every sip. Warrior, Simcoe, and Centennial hops blossom with every sip. Think citrus, peaches, and orange zest. No, don’t ask if it’s hazy. Ironically, Steele denies any “coast” claiming with Hoplandia:

Hoplandia is no ordinary IPA. It’s not confined to the style of the West Coast, East Coast or whatever coast. This lush IPA is something sublimely different and now in cans, more Atlantans will be able to experience Hoplandia for themselves.

All coasts aside, New Realm Hoplandia IPA, as well as Euphonia PIlsner, will soon be available in 12-ounce cans at the brewery, as well as Georgia distribution as we head into April.

Style: IPA
Hops: Centennial, Warrior, Simone
Malts: Pale, Pilsner, Crystal

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-Round
Debut (Cans): March 2018

Terrapin Chopsecutioner, aged on baseball bats leads off in cans this season

Terrapin Chopsecutioner was born at the brewery’s baseball brewhouse Suntrust Park, home of the Atlanta Braves, last season. This month, the beer steps up to the plate in cans for the first time.

Maybe drinking 7.3% ABV IPA for 9 innings of baseball in a hot city like Atlanta isn’t recommended. Terrapin Chopsecutioner is here to help. The Athens, Georgia based brewery has a new 5 barrel pilot system at Suntrust Park, the new home of the Atlanta Braves and is the birthplace of this unique beer.

RELATED: First Look: Terrapin ATL BrewLab

Attendees to Suntrust Park this summer will see quite a few unique recipes coming out of the new ATL BrewLab, starring with Chopsecutioner, which is actually aged on Mizuno wood bat chips. The hop lineup is the same as the bigger Hopsecutioner sibling, but with a lighter body, lower ABV, and a touch of wood flavor from the bats.

Terrapin Chopsecutioner is available on draft year-round at Suntrust Park. New 16-ounce cans are hitting shelves around Georgia, March until June.

Style: IPA (Aged on Baseball Bats)
Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: April 2017
Can Debut: March 2018

5% ABV, 60 IBUs

New England IPA: Hi-Wire Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh

The New England style IPA will be alive and well in 2018. Hi-Wire Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh is on the way.

The beer is so much like the “Helvetica List” t-shirts. You’ve seen them. They are usually white on black, with a list of four related cultural references and a lot of ampersands. (Ex. Me & You & Yo Momma & Yo Cousin Too, from OutKast.).

Asheville’s Hi-Wire already has some pretty sleek can designs – like Pink Drink & 10W-40. Whether or not the brewery was going for the “Helvetica List” idea, what they have done really makes for great new can design. Hi-Wire Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh has debuted in Asheville, North Carolina.

The name describes this beer in full – hazy, juicy, and hoppy. Fresh is how you should be drinking it.

Hi-Wire Hazy & Juicy & Hoppy & Fresh will be a 16-ounce can release.

Style: IPA
Availability: 16oz Cans
Debut: March 2018

7.5% ABV

Red Brick Airbrush Daydream introduces the “Myrtle Beach IPA”

Breakout those tacky-ass beach shirts. Red Brick Airbrush Daydream is coming this month.

The Atlanta based brewery jokingly subtitles this release a “Myrtle Beach Style IPA”. Funny now, but watch it become an actual beer style. After all, you can pretty much thank social media turning New England IPA into a hoppy juggernaut.

While New England is home to haze, the “Myrtle Beach Style” IPA is a tart one. Red Brick brews this release with Citra, Mosaic, and Topaz hops. If a surf shop t-shirt could be a beer, this is probably it.

Red Brick Airbrush Daydream will be available when the brewery opens on March 15th, in 16-ounce 4-packs.

Style: IPA
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Topaz

Availability: 16oz Cans. Limited Release.

Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin has joined the “Sculpin IPA” family

There’s a new Sculpin launching nationally with a tropical spin. Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin is hitting shelves now.

The story of this new India pale ale is the marriage of tropical flavor forward hops and the Bruxellensis Trois yeast selected for this beer. This fast fermenting strain of Brux lends the beer bursts of mango and pineapple flavors after fermentation. Combine those fruity flavors with a lineup of bold hops and the result is Aloha Sculpin. Also, for you haze chasers out there, this release sports a bit of that cloudiness you’re craving.

We used Brux Trois yeast to turn our award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis, enhancing its hop character with bright and refreshing notes of guava, pineapple, and mango.

The Sculpin family includes Grapefruit, PineappleHabanero, as well as Unfiltered editions.

Ballast Point Aloha Sculpin is now shipping nationally in 12-ounce bottles and draft.

Style: IPA
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: February 2018

Hazy in Baltimore: Heavy Seas The Alpha Effect will return

Heavy Seas The Alpha Effect, a new hazy India pale ale will return in 2018.

Hazy, turbid IPAs are probably here to stay. What started with smaller craft breweries dropping “haze”, spread to larger brewers follow suit. Stone intermittently releases an Enjoy By Unfiltered IPA, Ballast Point released Unfiltered Sculpin, even Sierra Nevada just debuted Hazy Little ThingHeavy Seas The Alpha Effect won over fans last March, so expect it again this year.

The brewery built this recipe from the ground up, using predominately Columbus hops. Interestingly, the brewery doesn’t use Columbus in any of their other beers.

This IPA certainly is hazy. Turbid? No. Juicy? Yes. If it’s a trop hop combo you are seeking, you’ll find it here. This IPA is a beautiful blend citrus, melon and piney hop flavors, with a smooth finish thanks to an addition of wheat.

The beer is hazy, with a modest portion of malted wheat in the grist. Straw colored, it has a clean, crisp malt profile. Juicy, resiny, piney hop aromas and flavors are the stars of this show, however. Some Citra and Centennial hops play supporting roles to Columbus’ powerful performance. If you like hops, find The Alpha Effect. You won’t be disappointed!” – Heavy Seas Brewmaster, Christopher Leonard

Heavy Seas The Alpha Effect will be available in 12-ounce bottles and draft again in February 2018.

Style: IPA
Hops: Columbus, Centennial, Citra, Mosaic
Malts: 2 Row, Wheat, Caramalt

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft.
Debut: March 2017
Latest Return: February 2018

POG inspired Terrapin Luau Krunkles returns year-round

Terrapin Luau Krunkles, a tropically inspired India pale ale, will be offered year-round in 2018.

“Krunkles” is a fictitious character (perhaps real, depending on who you ask at the brewery) that travels the world looking for new India pale ales. The series has seen releases like Krunkles Down Under (all Aussie & New Zealand hops), Samurai Krunkles, and Dr. Krunkles.

Terrapin Luau Krunkles is inspired by a Hawaiian drink called POG. The beverage is brewed with passionfruit, orange, and guava. (Yes that same drink gave rise to the POG game of the 90’s.) In 2017 when the temperature started to rise, so did Luau Krunkles. The demand for POG is so high, the beer will be offered year-round this year.

Krunkles is back with another world renowned IPA inspired by this time spent on the Hawaiian Islands. Jam packed with tropical flavors of passionfruit, orange and guava, this “Hawaiian IPA” is brewed to accompany you to your next luau.

Terrapin Luau Krunkles is a 12 ounce can and draft release year-round, alongside Hopsecutioner (with new artwork), Hi-5, RecreationAle, Good to Gose, and Sound Czech Pilsner.

Style: IPA (w/ Passionfruit, Oranges, Guava)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Debut: Fall, 2016.
Year Round: July, 2017

6.5% ABV

Ed Note: Luau Krunkles has already been available year-round in the brewery’s IPA Survival Kit
