Sierra Nevada “Narwhal” Coming In October

Sierra Nevada will ship a new imperial stout dubbed Narwhal this September. Narwhal joins the High Altitude Series, with one other beer – Hoptimum. I’m currently told that this new imperial stout bears a strong resemblance to Fritz & Ken’s Imperial Stout, released in honor the Chico, California brewery’s 30th birthday.

Look for Narwhal in 12 oz bottles and draft from September to December. (UPDATE – October, 2012)

Style: Imperial Stout

Nebraska’s Sour, Ugly Betty

A new Betty from Nebraska Brewing Company. This one’s ugly. Ugly Betty. If you ask me, it sounds like a barrel of Black Betty accidentally sour. Ugly Betty joins Nebraska’s Inception Series.

An outcast from  the set of Black Betty, this barrel embraces the natural sour character that can emerge from an unscripted cast of extras who invade the set of a 6 month shoot. Black Betty’s unfriended barrel – staring in her own show.

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel Aged, Sour)
Availability: 22 oz bottles
Arrival: TBA10% ABV

Evil Twin Yin & Yang In Bottles

Evil Twin’s Yin & Yang has already reached the United States on tap. Be on the lookout for bottles soon. The beer is actually a blend of Yin (Imperial Stout) and Yang (Imperial IPA).  The result is a beer as hoppy as it is dark. Brewed at Brewdog in Scotland.

This is a complete RTD Black and Tan. Not just any Black and Tan but he one where we flawlessly mixed a flippant good Imperial IPA with a profoundly evil Imperial Stout and sustained sweet beer balance.

Style: Black & Tan
Availability: Draft, 11.2 oz bottles

11.1% ABV

Stone Finds An Infection Issue In Rare Beer

Even well established breweries have some infection issues sometimes. Stone Brewing Co discovered yesterday that bottles of their 2010 Russian Imperial Russian Stout aged in bourbon barrels has some infection issues. The stout has spent two years resting in bourbon barrels before making it’s way into the world.   Randy Clemens, Media & Communications for Stone mentioned this on Beer Advocate:

Yeah, this is a major bummer to hear. We’re looking into the half-fills and the reports of infected bottles as we speak, and we’ll have much better information (as well as a solution to make it right!) after our meeting tomorrow. If you can’t wait that long, you’re welcome to bring your bottle(s) back–filled, empty, or anywhere in between–for a full refund, no questions asked. More details to come; thanks all for your patience, understanding, loyalty, and hopefully forgiveness.

This special edition is part of Stone’s Quingenti Millilitre series. I guess there are some sad beer geeks out there right now.
