Red Brick No New Friends draws a crowd, & new fans

Red Brick No New Friends, an imperial IPA collaboration with The Wrecking Bar has debuted.

Before taking on the role as Red Brick’s Director of Brewing Operations, Gavin McKenna worked and brewed for years with Neal Engleman at nearby Wrecking Bar. They’ve been friends for a while now, nothing new there – which we’re pretty sure is the inspiration behind the name – No New Friends.

“We used a few thousand dollars worth of hops,” Engleman jokes. “Folks better like it.”

No New Friends is everything about hop heavy, dank imperial IPAs that are in high demand. The near instant line at the bar when the brewery opened is all the validation you need. Beer fans that might have slept on Red Brick before aren’t anymore.

The 8% alcohol by volume hop bomb is hopped during primary fermentation with Citra and Mosaic hops, then dry hopped with Azacca, Vic Secret, plus a heavy dose Citra and Mosaic cryo powder. Basically, this IPA is hoppy AF.

That expensive hop bill is built on a malt bill of 2-Row, flaked oats, malted oats, spelt malt and lactose. Hoppy AF, hazy, and with a smooth, almost creamy finish. Simply put, a fantastic collaboration.

Red Brick No New Friends is available in 16-ounce cans in the brewery’s tap room.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Lactose)
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Azacca, Vic Secret
Malts: 2-Row, Flaked Oats, Malted Oats, Spelt

Debut: 2/1/18

Scofflaw Double Jeopardy IPA is getting an artistic upgrade in 2018

Scofflaw Double Jeopardy IPA is part of a series of artwork upgrades for the brewery in 2018.

Atlanta’s Scofflaw Brewing had one hell of a year. Between brewery expansions, the “middle finger scandal”, ordering a new brewhouse, and partnering with Scottish brewer Brewdog, it’s a wonder anyone on the team has time to sleep. Somewhere in the mix, someone there had time to work on upgrading their canned artwork.

The brewery’s Basement IPA is still #1 in demand. According to Jonathan Ingram at Scofflaw, Hooligan and Double Jeopardy are tied for second. Those that are hop-addicted are a home in the Simcoe heavy Double Jeopardy. Artist Josh Jameson is the talent behind beautiful updates.

Double Jeopardy has a malty bite up front from caramel and pale malts followed by a resinous hoppy middle, then finishes with a lingering, bittersweet boozy tingle. This big and bold unfiltered IPA taunts you: Can you walk away without having another?

Scofflaw Double Jeopardy IPA is available year-round in 12-ounce cans and draft.

Style:Imperial IPA
Hops: Simcoe (& more)

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round

10% ABV

Throw pumpkin pies into your mash & you have The Veil Brewing’s ‘Creep’

The Veil Brewing Creep debuts on October 31st.

Absolutely no stranger to weird is Richmond, Virginia based The Veil Brewing. The brewery has brewed with everything from Oreos to chicken wings in the past. Truly zero fu$ks given when it comes to being weird. That being said, in honor of Halloween and the coming Thanksgiving, The Veil threw a bunch of whole pumpkin pies into their mash tun. Because they can.

The Veil Brewing Creep is the result.

So many of the brewery’s IPAs and imperial IPAs are hazy and dank. According to the brewery, they wanted to create one with a “fuller body” and some residual sweetness. You can thank the pumpkin pie for that.

As you can see by the images, The Veil dumped a countless number of pumpkin pies into the brew, then intensely hopped it with Enigma, Motueka, and Citra hops. Despite not using lactose in the brewing process, the pumpkin pies most likely contain dairy.

…whole pumpkin pies to the mash resulting in a subtle flaky pie crust character with the slightest hint of pumpkin pie spice.

If this beer goes over well with the fans, expect this pie heavy beer to return next season. The Veil Brewing Creep will be available in 16-ounce cans when the brewery opens on Halloween.

Style: Imperial IPA (w/ Pumpkin Pie)
Hops: Citra, Motueka, Enigma

Availability: 16oz Cans
Debut: 10/31/17

9% ABV

Stranger things fan? You want The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night

The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night first debuted in cans on May 30th. The beer returns to the lineup again on October 24th.

This one is all about the dry-hop. Broz Broz Night Night is the “brother” beer to the Citra hop heavy Broz Night Out. The Veil opted to double dry-hop this edition, uping it to what they call “cray-cray” status.

This one turned out insane. We love the base beer, but with the DDH treatment, it’s just crazy. Just in time for the new season of Stranger Things too!

The Veil Brewing Broz Broz Night Night will be available at the brewery in Richmond, Virginia in all it’s hazy goodness again on October 24th.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Citra
Availability: 16oz Cans

Debut: 5/30/17
Latest Return: 10/24/17
