Oskar Blues GUBNA sports new hops, drops can distribution

Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA returns to the seasonal lineup for the sixth year. Cans won’t be easy to find this season.

The hoppiest beer in the brewery’s lineup gets a hop tweak with every release. The idea is to find and brew with the most sticky, dank hops Oskar Blues can find. The 2017 blend features Azacca, Sterling, and Crystal hops chosen from sensory panels at each of OB’s breweries.

“The traditional hops beat out some newer, experimental varietals this year, which surprised many of us here at OB, But the hops just spoke to the nearly 100 employees that participated in GUBNA hop selection and we must obey the rub.”Oskar Blues GUBNA is available in 12oz cans (4 packs) from March until July, seasonally. – Tim Matthews, Head of Brewing Operations.

The 10% alcohol by volume, 100+ IBU Oskar Blues Gubna will only be found on draft, unless you find yourself in one of the brewery’s taprooms.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Azacca, Sterling, Crystal
Malts: Rye, North American Pale, Munich

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA Details Announced

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA will join the brewery’s Monster Beer Tour in March. The imperial IPA will change with each release, highlighting a new, experimental hop.

The 2015 inaugural release of Terrapin Hop Selection IPA features Ella hops, from Australia. The hop the little sister of Galaxy hops, giving the beer a tropical flavor. Brewery co-founder “Spike” Buchowski travels to Yakima Valley, Washington each fall to hand select hops for the brewery. Needless to say, Ella hops made an impression.

Terrapin will be using Ella hops from the 2014 harvest. Ella (previously called Stella), the descendent of a Spalt-derived male and half-sister to Galaxy, is considered an aroma hop though with her higher alpha acid content of 14 – 16% she can also lend a hand in bittering. Ella has an interesting aroma of spicy hoppiness backed with softer floral notes and a touch of anise, which is a contrast to the big citrus/tropical fruit and pine notes of many modern hops used in American craft beers.

Terrapin Hop Selection IPA is replacing Terrapin’s other imperial IPA, Hopzilla. Available in 12oz bottles.

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Ella
Malts: 2-Row Pale, Vienna, CaraPilsner, Honey Malt

Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. Seasonal Release, different each year.
Release: March, 2015

8.4% ABV

Odell Myrcenario is aged in Jose Cuevo Tradicional barrels. Interestingly, the brewery swapped barrels for beer. The tequila maker is finshing some tequila barrels that once contained beer.

Myrcenario is the result of barrel exchange with our friends just south of the border. We age sure mercenary IPA in Jose Cuevo Tradicional barrels. In return, the folks at Jose Cuervo aged Tradicional in our beer barrels. The brew boasts a spicy, tropical hop character that balances the toasted oak with a surprisingly smooth finish.

The distribution area for Stone Enjoy By 3.14.15 has not been announced yet.
