Breckenridge Brewery Barrel-Aged 471 IPA is the newest entry in the Littleton, Colorado, brewery’s “471 IPA Barrel Series”.
Breckenridge’s first ever brew to be released as a part of their “471 IPA Barrel Series” is made with the hop varietal Hüll Melon Hops in the dry hop stage. Brewers began with 471 Double IPA and let it age for two months in the bourbon barrels. The brew is then added back to the tanks for dry hopping with the Hüll Melon Hops. Each new release in the “471 IPA Barrel Series” will feature a new 150 pounds of a hop varietal for the dry hopping stage.
Brandon Osha, the brewery’s cellar master, elaborates, “We move the beer as usual from tank to filtration to barrel, but then we take it back into tanks for dry hop treatment and follow that up with a final filtration.” He goes on to add, “Yeah, it’s kind of laborious, but it’s worth it.”
