Terrapin Beer Co will travel to Holland, Michigan to collaborate on a new brew with New Holland Brewing. The beer in planning is a weizenbock. Something to get exciting about as we wait for the New Holland/Georgia distribution deal to become finalized.
The third collaboration from Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, MO) is brewed with Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project in Somerville, MA. Pretty Things recently took a road trip over the summer and found themselves in Kansas City. The breweries know each other from various beer festivals.
Stingo is the name of the collaboration, a 17th century English beer style. Why stingo? Dann and Martha Paquette of Pretty Things have a connection to England. Dann brewed in England for years, and Martha was born in Yorkshire. Great idea honestly. So how did it turn out? Boulevard brewmaster Steven Pauwels describes Stingo as:
…bold and full-bodied, with a big malty nose, hints of dark malt, chocolate, licorice, and black fruits, and just the right amount of tartness in the finish. It pairs exceptionally well with wild game, smoked meats, strong cheeses, and heavily seasoned dishes.
Beer history is made in China. It’s the first ever craft beer collaboration. Beijing’s Great Leap Brewery, and Shanghai’s Boxing Cat Brewery have teamed up to create Yunnan Amber. Great Leap’s Carl Setzer and Boxing Cat’s Michael Jordan attended the Craft Brewer’s Conference in San Diego this year. They saw so many American collaborations, they went back to Asia to do the same.

New Belgium & Alpine’s Super India Pale Ale Arrives This Month
Coming this month – New Belgium & Alpine Beer Company team up to bring you Super India Pale Ale. This two part collaboration finds one brewed at Alpine in San Diego, and another that is brewed at New Belgium. In February, Peter Bouckaert from NB travelled to San Diego County to create installment #1, that will arrive first. (And only where you can find Alpine, which is very close to the brewery.) For most of you, this is the first time an Alpine Beer Company brew has been in your market.
Mikkeller has a new beer available stateside – k:rlek. According to RateBeer,k:rek is a concept beer brewed with Swedish importer Brill & Co. Currently available on draft. It does’t look like bottles have hit inventory.

Clown Shoes & Three Heads Offer You A Third Party Candidate
Clown Shoes (Ipswich, MA) and Three Heads Brewing (Rochester, NY) offering you a Third Party Candidate for this upcoming election. The collaboration is a 50%/50% fence sitting blend of Eagle Claw Fist Imperial Amber Ale (from Clown) and Loopy Oatmeal Red Ale (Three Heads).
This collaborative brew honors Geoff Dale: Man Child, Mother Bired, Minister of Mayhem, future president of the United States. A massive, hoppy imperial amber, Third Party candidate goes down nicely after you chant: Vote Geoff Dale! Vote Geoff Dale! Geoff Dale!
Reunion Ale and the great cause the comes with it is back for another year. Terrapin and Shmaltz Brewing have teamed back on up on another edition. The 2012 collaborative effort is much like last years release, except that chili peppers didn’t make the cut. A small cast change – cinnamon (the spice, not the stripper) joins the group.
The Cause: Virginia MacLean died from complications from her Multiple Myeloma on June 4, 2007. Virginia was not only the inspiration for the REUNION- A Beer for Hope project (now in its sixth year), but an active participant in every facet of its creation. It was her wish that we continue the mission of raising funds for IMBCR and bringing hope to others. Her dream and memory ware carried forward by her fellow Reunion founders Paul McErlean, brewmaster at Shmaltz Brewing Co., and Alan Shapiro, who worked with Virginia at Pete’s Brewing Company during her initial illness. Worldwide, over 1,000 people per day are diagnosed with this cancer of the plasma. IMBCR is one of the world’s leading independent researchers. Their work not only affects myeloma patients, it also produces benefits in areas such as lymphoma and breast cancer.
