Mother Earth debuts a hazy collaboration with Fremont Brewing

When Mother Earth Brew Co. teams up with Seattle taste giant Fremont Brewing, expect a damn good beer.

First, let’s talk about the series. Four times a year, Mother Earth releases a seasonal beer, tied to the Earth’s four-ish seasons. (In the south, real winter is debatable. Don’t even get us started on whatever Florida calls seasons.)

For these hot months, Mother Earth Brew Co. and Fremont created a hazy IPA, that’s every bit the juice and haze you’d expect from the duo. Summer is a great time to debut this release, after all, the teams met originally on a fishing trip.

Further tying this beer to summer is an array off really rare hops (not grown in abundance), including African Queen from South Africa. The malt comes from a farmer-owned cooperative, LINC Malt out of Spokane, WA. We might be running a little low on descriptors for hazy IPAs so le us simply leave you with this. Don’t miss this release. You really CAN stand out in a crowded world of hazy beers, and Mother Earth and Fremont proved it.

Mother Earth 4 Seasons Hazy IPA is a limited summer seasonal in 16-ounce cans and draft. Don’t sleep on it.

Style: Hazy IPA
Hops: African Queen, Galaxy, Mosaic Cryo, El Dorado
Malts: 2 Row, Dextrin, Golden Naked Oats, Unmalted Wheat

Availability: 16oz Cans, Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: June 2019

Firestone Walker & England’s Wild Beer Company create ‘Violet Underground’

Firestone Walker Violet Underground, a cross-Atlantic ocean collaboration, debuts this week. Part of the brewery’s Barrelworks Program.

Jim Crooks, Firestone’s medal-winning master blender is good friends with Brett Ellis, co-founder, and brewer at England’s Wild Beer Company.

Dissecting this beer yeast first – Ellis sent Crooks some Wild Beer’s native yeast. Crooks then fermented two base beers. One with Barrelworks yeast and California golden raspberries, and the other with Wild Beer’s English funk. Both bases were aged in French oak between 6 months and a year. French candied violet petals were added to a handful of barrels. The result? Something Crooks calls a “head trip”.

“Violet Underground is an intentional head trip. It’s golden in color yet smells like raspberries, offering a bunch of unexpected sensory notes that all come together in the glass.”

The beer name is presumably a play on the 60’s rock band Velvet Underground, that once had Lou Reed.

Firestone Walker Violet Underground is the second packaged release in 2019, available in 375-ml bottles and draft

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Golden Raspberries. Violet Petals. French Oak Aged.)
Availability: 375ml Bottles. Draft. Limited Release.
Debut: Early June 2019

Sierra Nevada chooses Bitburger Brewery for Oktoberfest 2019 collab

In 2015, Sierra Nevada released an Oktoberfest ahead of the fall season. Instead of simply brewing the beer in the German tradition (releasing it for their on-site fest parties), Sierra Nevada took it a step further. They began collaborating with some of the best German breweries in the world.

The first edition was quite a masterpiece- combining Sierra Nevada’s hardcore brewing quality with Brauhaus Riegele’s 600+ years of brewing experience. A different kind of festbier and you could certainly taste it.

Since then, Sierra Nevada collaborated Mahrs Brau, Brauhaus Mittenberger, and most recently – the oldest brewery in the world, Weihenstephaner.

For the 2019 release, Sierra Nevada has selected Bitburger Brewery. Based in Bitburg, Germany, Bitburger lays claim to one of the top breweries in sales volume in their home country. Founded in 1817 by Johann Wallenborn, the brewery’s pilsner sells over 1 million U.S. barrels annually.

This year’s Oktoberfest edition is brewed with Bitburger’s Siegelhopfen (meaning “sealed hops”)—a classified hop blend that has never been shared outside the German brewery walls, according to Sierra Nevada. Additionally, Bitburger offered their signature house yeast, also never shared outside of their own brewing operations.

“We are thrilled to be brewing together with our friends from the iconic Sierra Nevada Brewery. Not only are we united by our passion for exceptional beer and truly unique hop flavors, we also share a long history of transatlantic exchange, leading to this exciting collaboration.” – Jan Niewodniczanski, Managing Director of Bitburger

Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2019 will be available just once in 12-ounce bottles and draft starting in late July 2019.

Style: Oktoberfest
Availability: 12oz Bottles, Draft. One-Time Release.
Debut: Late July 2019
