Foothills Announces New “Hundred Foot” Centennial Ale

Foothills Brewing has teamed up with Winston-Salem, their  hometown, for a a special limited release beer. Hundred Foot celebrates the centennial of the two cities (Winston & Salem) becoming one. Salem was founded in 1753, Winston in 1849. The two cities officially merged May 9, 1913.

“We’re thrilled that the city wanted us to be a part of their celebration,” said Jamie Bartholomaus, president and brewmaster of Foothills. “This community has embraced us ever since we opened our doors, so to be recognized as an integral part of this city and this historic event is something we’re extremely proud of.”

Style: Cream Ale
Hops: Centennial

21st Amendment Adds Draft Only Imperial Jack

Here’s a story about a brewery, a pub regular, a homebrew collaboration, and a kindly English grandfather.

Actually the Cliffnotes version: 21st Amendment is brewing Imperial Jack, an ESB, using a recipe they’ve collaborated with a pub regular/ homebrewer Richard Brewer-Hay. The brew was originally called Grandpa Jack in honor of Richards’s late grandfather, both of whom are from England. Richard and 21st Amendment’s Shaun O’Sullivan came together to make a stronger version, Imperial Jack, and will be traveling back to England together to brew it.

Style: Extra Special Bitter

Today Funkwerks announced that brewers from New Belgium and Odell were in house and working on a collaborative beer. This is the 3rd annual Fort Collins collaboration. This year they’re working on a Biere de Garde featuring endive and rose hips. This is one of many brews that the brewers of Fort Collins will be whipping up for American Craft Beer Week. Stay tuned for more details as they unfold.

Cigar City & Amager To Collaborate (Plus Collab Review)

Cigar City Brewing (Tampa, FL) are headed to Denmark next month to collaborate with Amager Bryghus. If you look at Amager’s lineup, you can be sure that the result will be a pretty dark beer.

In honor of this meet up, the brewery will be tapping Papsø’s Passion Fruit Porter.  6% ABV beer brewed passion fruit as a nod to Henrik Papso. Henrik is the “inside” guy at the brewery that obtains certain special ingredients over there. A bit like Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption.

Maui Brewing Collaborates with Lost Abbey

Meet Lemongrass Saison, Maui Brewing’s collaboration with Lost Abbey using 150 lbs of 100% local Maui raised lemongrass. Around 500 barrels were produced and all of Maui’s distribution area should be seeing it in cans and maybe even on draft. According to Maui, the beer pairs well with “chilling outdoors with friends,” which of course is the best pairing of all.
