Georgia Florida Rivalry Gets A Beer Too

More SEC Football rivalry. Terrapin Beer Company’s “Spike” is in Florida today brewing a beer with Swamp Head (Gainesville) on a new collaboration called Bitter Rivalry. If you know nothing of the rivalry that is the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs, it’s… huge.

The two teams can’t play at their own stadiums. They have to play on neutral ground in Jacksonville, Florida. “The Landing” in Jacksonville becomes the worlds largest outdoor cocktail party (more like, biggest outdoor $hit talking/drunk fest) in America. Trust me, I’ve been.

The rivalry heats up today with this new collaboration. Swamp Head is teasing details, but haven’t commented on the style. There are oranges involved, we know this much.

The Georgia/Florida game this year is November 2. There will be release parties and activities around this beer closer to the bloodbath. Oh, and by the way this isn’t Spike’s first SEC rivalry brew this year. In August he went to Knoxville, Tennessee (that’s UT territory) to brew another rivalry brew.

Next Up in Stone’s Collaboration Series: Suede

Behold the next Stone Brewing Co Collaboration – Suede. For this release, Stone’s Mitch Steele teams up with Megan O’Leary Parisi of Bluejacket in D.C., and Tonya Cornell from 10 Barrel Brewing in Bend, OR.   The cross country melding of brewers minds finds them creating an imperial porter with avocado honey, plus jasmine and calendula flowers from Stone Farms.  The result? Suede is described by their creators as “soft and seductive” and an “all season wonder.”

A formal announce is to follow from Stone. Look for this new edition in the coming months.

Style: Imperial Porter (w/ Jasmine Flowers, Calendula Flowers, Honey)
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft
Arrival: TBA

Football Is Back! SEC Rivalry Creates Beer Collab

25th Parallel Ale

Those of you not too into college football you’ll need this backstory. Terrapin Beer Company is based in Athens, Georgia – home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs. SawWorks Brewing is based in Knoxville, Tennessee – home of the Tennessee Volunteers. Both SEC teams are hardcore rivals. Trust me, I’ve stormed the field years ago in Athens. (Yep, still proud of it.)

The rivalry is deeper than just football. The name, 35th Parallel Ale refers to a centuries old border dispute that came back up a few years ago. During a severe drought, the State of Georgia brought up a nearly 200 year old cartographical mistake, that would move Georgia’s border back over a piece of the Tennessee River, to the 35th Parallel. That would give the state access to a much needed water supply.

Terrapin’s brewmaster “Spike” will brew this alcoholic throw down of a beer tomorrow in Knoxville. Style nuances are soon to follow.

21st Amendment & Elysian’s Second Can Collab

21A HeSaid-Lager_Can

21st Amendment and Elysian Brewing have two different collaborations coming out in cans soon. Both collaborations are called He Said and have similar artwork, but the insides are stylistically different. One is a Belgian style tripel with pumpkin and spices. The second is actually a Baltic porter, lager brewed (that’s a departure from how it is actually brewed) with pumpkin and spices.  Two different imaginative, pumpkin-y takes on some old school styles.

Style: Baltic Porter (w/ Pumpkin, Spices)
Availability: 12oz Cans
Arrival: TBA

8.2% ABV

After doing a little research, you’d be hard pressed to find one like this. This is actually 1 of 2 in a series of collaborations between the west coast breweries. The latter is a Baltic porter.

21st Amendment will can this 8.2% ABV offering. Try tailgating all day with this one.
