Avondale Bottles: No Joka Mocha

Avondale Brewing No Joka Mocha

Avondale Brewing (Birmingham, AL) is adding a bottling line. All 22oz bottles for the time being. Among those slated – No Joka Mocha, a seasonal release.

No Joka Mocha is an oatmeal stout malt beverage with coffee and cocoa. This brew has a blackish pour with a creamy tan head. A solid coffee aroma greets the nose with deep rich malts in the background. It has a medium body that is slightly sweet, with subtle chocolate flavors and finishes smooth with the oatmeal. Our special blend of Blue Batak Sumatran Coffee used in this brew comes to us specially roasted from our good friends at Finer Grind Coffee Roasters. Finer Grind and Avondale put their combined passion for beer and coffee together for this seasonal brew.

Style: Oatmeal Stout (w/ Coffee, Cocoa)

Oskar Blues & Asheville Brewing Collaborate. You Name It.

Asheville Brewing Company and Oskar Blues Brewery have just created a new North Carolina collaboration brew. It is the first by Oskar Blues since moving into Brevard, NC.  The beer? An imperial coffee brown ale brewed with a smidge of  molasses. The beer was brewed at Asheville Brewing.  They want help naming the beer. Here’s some hints…

Think Alabama/Southern roots (both Doug Riley and DaleKatechis are from that Magnolia-strewn state). Think big, bold lightly-hopped nectar with a malty, steeped with Ethiopian-blend coffee, backbone. Think fun, punny, and a little outrageous (but not crude). Winner will receive a t-shirt from both breweries and huge street cred.

Drop an idea on their Facebook page.  Pic via Asheville Brewing.

Style: Imperial Brown Ale (w/ Coffee)
Availability: Draft Only
Arrival: 4/8/13

If you go:

Simultaneous release parties on April 8th at each brewery (North Carolina).

Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout (The Best Part of Waking Up)

If you were to ask our opinion about Weyerbacher (Easton, PA) we would tell you they make a lot of amazing barrel aged offerings that don’t get the press they deserve. From Insanity (barleywine in bourbon), to Heresy (imperial stout in bourbon), even their Sour Black and Rapture beers are pretty incredible. They just don’t get the buzz like other breweries. Perfect really, more for those who know.

Above – Sunday Morning Stout, a barrel aged noob in the works from brewmaster Chris Wilson and his team at Weyerbacher. Aptly named too, as SMS is a stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee. The best part of waking up.

Style: Stout (w/ Coffee, Barrel Aged)
Availability: 12oz bottles
Arrival: TBA

Boulevard Coffee Ale Coming To Smokestack Series

Boulevard Coffee Ale

An new Boulevard Brewing Smokestack Series release is in the works – Coffee Ale.  A collaboration with The Roasterie Air Roasted Coffee.

Neighbors for nearly twenty years, Boulevard Brewing Company and The Roasterie share a passion for making ex-traordinary beverages. In Coffee Ale, our two celebrated brewing traditions come together in a long-awaited collaboration Ethiopian Sidamo from Africa’s Great Rift Valley has been carefully blended with rye, oats, and malted barley, and spiced with Perle and Styrian Golding hops. The delightfully fragrant beer pres-ents a glowing, tawny-amber hue. The clean, crisp acidity of the air-roasted coffee mingles with malt on the palate, lingering faintly in a subtly sweet finish.

Availability: 750ml bottles, Draft
