Avondale Brewing No Joka Mocha

Avondale Brewing (Birmingham, AL) is adding a bottling line. All 22oz bottles for the time being. Among those slated – No Joka Mocha, a seasonal release.

No Joka Mocha is an oatmeal stout malt beverage with coffee and cocoa. This brew has a blackish pour with a creamy tan head. A solid coffee aroma greets the nose with deep rich malts in the background. It has a medium body that is slightly sweet, with subtle chocolate flavors and finishes smooth with the oatmeal. Our special blend of Blue Batak Sumatran Coffee used in this brew comes to us specially roasted from our good friends at Finer Grind Coffee Roasters. Finer Grind and Avondale put their combined passion for beer and coffee together for this seasonal brew.

Ska Minthe Stout

Ska Brewing will release the third edition in their  Seasonal Stout series: Vernal Minthe Stout on Wednesday. The stout brewed with peppermint, spearmint, cocoa and vanilla beans. The beer will hit shelves on March 20th, the date of the spring equinox.

“Spring is a good time to brew up a reward for making it through winter, said Ska Overlord of Brewing Operations Bill Graham. “The Vernal Minthe Stout is a treat: sweet, but with great roasted and chocolate notes for balance–and a peppermint note that reminds me of spring. I bet I’m not the only one who could use a reward about now.”

Look for the next announcement in June, corresponding with the Summer Equinox.

Bridgeport “Bear Hug” Cherry Chocolate Hits


The newest creation from Bridgeport Brewing (Portland, OR) is now available. Bear Hug Cherry Chocolate Stoutcombines two flavors meant to be together – chocolate and cherries.  The beer is brewed with a ton of roasted malts, cocoa nibs, and 15 pounds of sweet cherries. In the end, the beer is aged on more cocoa and cherries.

Style: Stout (w/ Cherries, Cocoa Nibs)
Hops: Nugget
Malts: Pale, Chocolate, Crystal 30-37

A Beer Glass Made Out of Chocolate

For your “cool shit” category – Japanese brewery Sankt Gallen has a chocolate pint glass to go with their chocolate stout. It works just as you can imagine. You pour your choco stout into the chocolate glass. Drink the beer, eat the chocolate. I just did a fat kid slow motion hi five with myself.

More importantly, the snosberries taste like snosberries.
