New year-round can: Boulevard American Kolsch

Debuting this week in Kansas City, Missouri is a new year-round beer, Boulevard American Kolsch.

Avid fans of the brewery have seen this beer once before, part of the Tasting Room Series a short while ago. Boulevards states folks became obsessed with it, wanting it to be brewed again.

Boulevard American Kolsch is inspired by the traditional German style, brewed with European pilsner malt, pale malt and a touch of malted wheat. The hop bill includes Saphir and Saaz hops.

Pouring golden in color, the aroma is of bready malt punctuated by a slightly minty hop character. With a light to medium mouthfeel, American Kolsch delivers a honey-like malt sweetness that gives way to a crisp, clean finish with a touch of lingering herbal/citrusy hop flavor.

Boulevard American Kolsch debuts on draft on January 30th, and in 12 ounce cans the following day.

Style: Kolsch
Hops: Saphir, Saaz

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft. Year-round
Debut: 1/31/17

First time in cans: AleSmith Speedway Stout

AleSmith Speedway Stout, easily one of the most popular imperial stouts in the United States, is now available in cans.

The black, silver foiled, bottle of viscous has made AleSmith Speedway Stout an American brewing icon. What is the next logical step for one of America’s most renown stouts?

Alesmith has already been canning their IPA for while now, and fans have been wondering what’s up next. A pint can of the coffee-laden stout might just be the perfect size for those nights your aren’t sharing your beer.

Sixpoint Hi-Res (imperial IPA) back in focus

Sixpoint Hi-Res, the brewery’s imperial IPA, is head back to shelves this week.

By now you should be familiar with Sixpoint Resin, the brewery’s “snappy, bitter” IPA. A carefully fomulated homage to hops. Hi-Res is a deeper dive down the hoppy rabbit hole, with a heftier recipe (in alcohol at least), drawing so much more of its flavor from late hop additions.

A full golden body, and a flavor profile driven by mango and passionfruit notes make Hi-Res a bittersweet ode to hops, and perfect for smooth sipping.

An IPA that hop lovers shouldn’t miss. SIxpoint Hi-Res is available in 12 ounce cans and draft, seasonally.

Style: Imperial IPA
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Latest Return: January, 2017

Samuel Adams Rebel IPA recipe reformulated with exclusive hops

The “Rebel” that changed it call is a little different going forward. Samuel Adams Rebel IPA, which debuted in 2014, has been reformulated.

It has taken four years for the Boston brewery to tweak the changes to Samuel Adams Rebel IPA, in an undertaking called Project Lupulus. The experiment was put in place to work with new varieties of hops that aren’t yet available to the public. Hops are in extremely high demand, so finding a future winner for a recipe gives you an advantage on stock.

The hop variety that has risen from months and years of experimentation is HBC 566 and HBC682, two hops that are proprietary and exclusive to the brewery. HBC 566 boasts lemon, lime, and orange and eucalyptus flavors, while HBC 682 is used for bittering.

“This is the first time we’ve significantly changed the recipe of a flagship beer.  As hop varieties evolve, we want to use the new varieties to keep brewing the best beer possible,”- Jim Koch, Founder – Boston Beer Company

In total, seven hops make the new Samuel Adams Rebel IPA – Simcoe, Centennial, Cascade, Chinook, Mosaic, HBC 566, and HBC 682. Caramel malt was also removed from the recipe, leaving only Two Row malt.

Samuel Adams Rebel IPA (reborn) is shipping nationally on draft and 12 bottles.

Style: IPA
Hops: Simcoe, Centennial, Cascade, Chinook, Mosaic, HBC 566, and HBC 682

Availability: 12oz bottles, Draft
Debut (New Recipe): January, 2017

6.5% ABV
