Thanks to the yeast geniuses White Labs, samples were collected (cut) from his beard and tested. You guessed it. The samples were able to create a yeast strain suitable for brewing.
According to the brewery, John has been growing the beard since 1978. His response to the beard that changed beer history? “It was in front of me the whole time and it only took two centuries and five decades to grow.”
The beard beer will be called New Crustacean – coming in 2013. [Rogue]
