Bourbon Barrel Coffee Beans in Modern Times City of the Dead

Modern Times City of the Dead has just been bottled by the California brewery.

Modern Times City of the Dead is a coffee stout, that uses house-roasted coffee beans, aged in bourbon barrels. How do you bourbon barrel age coffee beans? Take the green beans that haven’t been roasted yet. At this point they are ver susceptible to new flavors. Fill a bourbon barrel full of beans and wait for the magic to happen. Finally, carefully roast the beans so as not to cover up the barrel aged notes.

Rich, full-bodied, & bursting with barrel-aged coffee aroma & flavor, this coffee stout is truly a unique & delicious animal. We were the first brewery to ever make beer with barrel-aged coffee, and now we’re the first to do a large-scale bottle release. And, of course, we roasted it all ourselves. Cool stuff!

Modern Times City of the Dead is available in 22oz bottles, starting January 27th.

Style: Stout (w/ Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee)
Availability: 22oz Bottles, Draft
Release: 1/27/15

7.5% ABV

Odell Myrcenario is aged in Jose Cuevo Tradicional barrels. Interestingly, the brewery swapped barrels for beer. The tequila maker is finshing some tequila barrels that once contained beer.

Myrcenario is the result of barrel exchange with our friends just south of the border. We age sure mercenary IPA in Jose Cuevo Tradicional barrels. In return, the folks at Jose Cuervo aged Tradicional in our beer barrels. The brew boasts a spicy, tropical hop character that balances the toasted oak with a surprisingly smooth finish.

Odell Mycenario will be bottled conditioned, in 750ml bottles.

Style: Imperial IPA (Barrel Aged. Tequila.)
Availability: 750ml bottles

Inception Series Potential: Nebraska Brewing Runnin’ With the Devil

Nebraska Brewing Runnin’ With the Devil is a potential release in the brewery’s Inception Series this year.  (As of now, not officially announced.)

For Runnin’ with the Devil, the brewery took their Fathead Barleywine, and aged it in rum barrels. Because? Booze.

A variant of our Fathead Barley Wine Ale. We’ve taken a massive beer which already had deep brown sugar notes and chosen to age it further in Venezuelan Rum barrels for a beautiful finish and deep maturation. You’ll find it best to share with a friend. And be seated.

Nebraska Runnin’ with the Devil will be available in 750ml bottles.

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged. Rum Barrels.)
Availability: 750ml bottles.
Release: TBA

Nebraska “Blanc is the New White” Joins Inception Series in February

Nebraska Brewing Company (La Vista, NE) will release Blanc is the New White into their Inception Series. Inception already features other releases like Romancing the Cone, and Attack of the 50 Foot Brunette.

Nebraska Blanc is the New White features Ardennes yeast (just like SweetWater’s recent release, and future sour ale), aged in Sauvignon Blanc barrels for  half a year.

Pushing creativity into new realms of barrel aging, this Saison was made with the Ardennes yeast strain and aged in Sauvignon Blanc barrels for 6 months. The result is a beer that spans the breadth of grassy down into lightly tropical character. Uniquely pleasant.

Look for Nebraska Blanc is the New White in 750ml bottles in February, 2015.

Style: Belgian-style Strong Ale (Barrel Aged. Wine Barrels.)

Almanac Cognac Barrel Noir Looks to Join Farm To Barrel Series

Almanac Cognac Barrel Noir takes aim at the brewery’s Farm to Barrel Series. These small batch barrel aged offerings typical feature local fruits, mixed with wine, bourbon or spirits barrels.

Almanac Cognac Barrel Noir is a base imperial stout that spent some time with popular cognac, Rémy Martin.

This very limited release is a love letter to barrel aging. We started with an imperial stout brewed with our favorite dark malts. We aged the beer for over a year in large Remy Martin Cognac puncheons where the beer breathed in the rich oak, vanilla and cognac aromatics of the barrels – resulting in this contemplative black ale.

Almanac Cognac Barrel Noir will be available in 375ml bottles.

Style: Imperial Stout (Barrel Aged. Cognac.)
Availability: 375ml Bottles
Release: TBA
