Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Strawberry Released

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Strawberry is the latest release in the brewery’s Farm to Barrel Series. Each release features local fruit, picked at peak season to nuance the Almanac’s very barrel aged ales.

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Strawberry is a blond sour ale that features coastal Seascape Strawberries grown at Dirty Girl Farms in California’s Santa Cruz Mountains.

These delicious juicy berries are swept by cool evening ocean breezes and drenched in warm daytime sun before being hand-picked and added to this tart and refreshing ale. Enjoy paired with classic charcuterie and summer salads.

Almanac Farmer’s Reserve Strawberry is available in 375ml bottles.

Modern Times Barrel Aged Monster’s Park Tickets on Sale 3/19

Modern Times Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster’s Park tickets go on sale this Thursday. The brewery’s 13% ABV imperial stout has been aged 5+ months in bourbon barrels.

There are three versions of Modern Times Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster’s Park: The “classic” edition, one featuring Black House Blend coffee, and one with toasted coconut & cocoa nibs.

600 bottles of each will be available. Prices range from $24 to 28 a piece.

Modern Times Bourbon Barrel Aged Monster’s Park and variants on March 19th at 10am via Brown Paper Tickets; all bottles must be picked up at the Lomaland Fermentorium tasting room during the two month pick-up window.

Peace Tree Barrel Aged Imperial Stout Celebrates Five Years

Peace Tree Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is one of two special releases, celebrating the brewery’s five year anniversary.

To commemorate our first five years, we bring you this Imperial Stout, which has been aged in rye whiskey barrels for no less than 15 months. The deep color and malty backbone come from heavy additions of dark-roasted and caramel malts. These chocolate and coffee characteristics are balanced by mild hops and from the complex esters developed through the Belgian-style yeast during fermentation…

Peace Tree Barrel Aged Imperial Stout will be available in 22oz bottles. Those wishing to purchase bottles can reserve bottles online, for in person pickup. $12.00.

Almanac Rum Barrel Peche Coming to Farm to Barrel

Almanac Rum Barrel Peche takes aim at the brewery’s Farm to Barrel Series.

This edition features summer peaches, a sour blonde ale, and rum barrels.

Historically, fruit-infused sour beer were a way of preserving the summer harvest. In that tradition, this blonde ale was added to rum barrels with high-summer peaches, hand-picked by the Loewen Family at Blossom Bluff Orchards in Reedley, California. We aged this liquid gold for six months until we needed a reminder that summer will come again.

Almanac Rum Barrel Peche will be available in 375ml bottles. The brewery has not yet announced this offering.

Steel String Pretty Polly American Wild Ale, Mid-March

Steel String Pretty Polly American Wild Ale is one of two sour beers that kick off a new sour series by the brewery.

In mid-March, two different offerings will join the series. Steel String Pretty Polly, and Dry-Hopped Pretty Polly. The above is the less hopped edition of the the barrel aged sour/wild ale.

Polly is kettle soured, then blended in wine barrels with another ale that has been fermented 100% with Brettanomyces yeast.

Pretty Polly draws its name from Appalachian murder ballads, often named after the victim or perpetrator. Pretty Polly is about a man named Willy who is courting Pretty Polly. He takes her out into the country on a date and admits that he is so in love with her that he has to kill so she can’t leave him. Each release in the series will feature different names and elements of the songs.

Steel String Pretty Polly arrives in Mid-March at the brewery, and through North Carolina by the end of the month.

Firestone Walker Parabola 2015 Releases March 21st

Firestone Walker Parabola 2015 makes a seasonal return to the brewery’s lineup on March 21st, 2015.

Parabola is a Russian imperial Stout, aged in bourbon barrels. Firestone Walker laments, this is one of the brewery’s most sought after offerings, and a major component of the brewery’s Anniversary blends.

One of our most aggressive and sought-after offerings. Bold bourbon, tobacco and espresso aromas and a hint of American oak greet the nose. Rich, chewy roasted malts, charred oak and bourbon-like vanilla fill the palate and create a seamless finish. A remarkably complex brew that offers a transcendental drinking experience – enjoy with good company.

Firestone Walker Parabola will be available in 22oz bottles in limited quantities across the brewery’s distribution footprint.

Steel String Dry-Hopped Pretty Polly Kicks Off New Sour Series

Steel String Dry-Hopped Pretty Polly is the first of the brewery’s barrel aged sour line. The base beer is a saison that was soured in the kettle, then fermented in a pinot noir barrel with a another ale, fermented 100% with Brettanomyces.

Steel String Dry-Hopped Pretty Polly features Mosaic, Citra, and Nelson Sauvin hops. The brewery tells Beer Street Journal that the flavor is :vinous, fruity and some what oaky, overall rather complex.
