Start Drooling Over Stillwater's Barrel Aged Existent

What could make Stillwater Artisanal Ales “Existent” any better? Bourbon barrels.  Stillwater has taken this dark saison and aged in in bourbon for your drinking pleasure.  There are are few saisons as philosophically complex at Existent; even fewer barrel aged.
About Existent:

Existent represents the philosophy behind Stillwater Artisanal. We strive to define ourselves through our passion and sincerity while accepting that not all aspects of life are readily explainable. To manifest this ideology we present an ale of intrigue. Deep & dark though deceptively dry, braced by a firm yet smooth bitterness and accented with an earthy hop and mild roast aroma. This is an ale for you to define..

Style: Saison (barrel aged)
Availability: 11.2oz bottles
Arrival:August 2011. Limited to 44 cases. Potential in areas: WA, OR, CA, AZ, MO, IL, WI, OH, GA, FL, SC, NC, VA, PA, DC, MD, NY, CT, RI, MA, VT, ME

More Brrrbon For 2011

Widmer Brrrbon 2011

You saw it again last year, you’ll see it again this year.  Widmer Brother’s Brrrbon- is Brrr,  a winter warmer aged in bourbon barrels.  Couple of changes though, the beer appears to be part of the “Alchemy Project.”  Interestingly, both Brrr & Brrrbon use Alchemy hops.  Making the assumption they are related.  Awesome name to what sounds to be a new series by Widmer.

This smooth, chilly winter warmer goes through a secondary fermentation as it ages in Kentucky bourbon barrels.  After months of maturation in the barrels the brew is allow a tertiary fermentation for final conditioning before release.

Style: Winter Warmer (barrel aged)
Hops: Alchemy for bittering, Simcoe & Cascade for aroma
Malts: 2-Row Pale, Carapils, Caramel 10-L, Caramel 80 L, Dark Chocolate

Taste Expectations: Earthy flavors mix with vanilla bourbon & oak.  It’s a sipper, but one you can’t put own.
Arrival: Early Winter, 2011

9.4% ABV

Bourbon Santa’s Little Helper Returns July 16th

Port Brewing’s Barrel aged edition of Santa’s Little Helper returns July 16th.  This is the bourbon edition of the brewery’s festive Russian imperial stout released each winter.

Everyone knows that Santa delivers toys and gifts to little girls and boys each Christmas Eve. But what does he do with the sleigh the other 364 days a year?  Well rumor has it he hitches up the reindeer each July testing driving to ensure it’s still in operating condition. At the North Pole they mark their calendars calling it Christmas in July.  How do we know that?

Well, Virginia, each year Santa stops by Port Brewing to load up his sleigh with beer for his return trip to the North Pole.  He’s a big fan of Santa’s Little Helper, and for the last nine months our brewers have been extra naughty aging some in bourbon barrels.  Hopefully Santa won’t drink it all by himself, but we wouldn’t blame him if he did.

Style: Russian Imperial Stout (Barrel Aged)
Hops: Phoenix, Challenger and East Kent Goldings
Malts: Two Row, Wheat, Domestic and English Crystal, Roasted, Black and Chocolate Malts
Yeast: White Labs California Ale and Proprietary Yeast Strains

Port will post more on availability, price & quantity closer to release date…

Availability: 22oz bottles, seasonally.
Arrival: Late July, 2011

10.5% ABV

Also, Port Brewing’s “Road To Helles” returns June 27th.  Draft only.
