Inception Series Potential: Nebraska Brewing Runnin’ With the Devil

Nebraska Brewing Runnin’ With the Devil is a potential release in the brewery’s Inception Series this year.  (As of now, not officially announced.)

For Runnin’ with the Devil, the brewery took their Fathead Barleywine, and aged it in rum barrels. Because? Booze.

A variant of our Fathead Barley Wine Ale. We’ve taken a massive beer which already had deep brown sugar notes and chosen to age it further in Venezuelan Rum barrels for a beautiful finish and deep maturation. You’ll find it best to share with a friend. And be seated.

Nebraska Runnin’ with the Devil will be available in 750ml bottles.

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged. Rum Barrels.)
Availability: 750ml bottles.
Release: TBA

11.9% ABV

Note: This is a “first look” preview. Details are subject to change at anytime by the brewery.

Firestone Sucaba Revealed to Be Blended with Secret Beer

Firestone Walker Brewing (Paso Robles, CA) will release Sucaba, the brewery’s barrel aged barleywine again on January 17th, 2015. You knew it once as Abacus, but they can’t say that anymore. (It’s legal crap. Last time we will bring it up. Everyone has moved on.)

Interestingly, Firestone Walker’s Matt Brynildson reveals something about Sucaba that has been a bit of a secret. It is actually a blend of two beers. The base beer indeed Sucaba, but a second strong beer, a 10% beer, is blended to give the final concoction the chocolate-y, dark cherry notes.

“We’ve never talked about it, but §ucaba is actually a blend of two separate beers,” Brynildson said.

Firestone Walker Sucaba is part of the brewery’s Proprietor’s Reserve Series, available in 22oz bombers. ERP: $16.99

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged. Bourbon)
Hops: Magnum (bittering), East Kent and Styrian Golding (late kettle)
Malts: Pale Ale Malt, Maris Otter, Munich, Dark & Light Crystal, Chocolate

Availability: 22oz bombers, Individually Boxed. 3500 cases produced.
Arrival: 1/17/15

13% ABV, 42 IBUs

Two Roads Releases 12% ABV, “20 Ton”

Two Roads Brewing’s (Stratford, CT) newest is a blonde barleywine dubbed 20 Ton Ale.

The beer honors an inherited 20-ton overhead crane left over from when the production facility was US Baird Automatic Machine facility. The crane isn’t fully operational, but the brewery does use it from time to time.

A behomoth of a beer, it’s brewed with Golden Promise (known for its distinct vanilla biscuit character) malt and generously hopped with a blend of both cutting-edge and classic hop varieties. The result is a decidedly fruity and piney heavyweight brew clocking in at 12% alcohol and loaded with plenty of hop character that makes it enjoyable upon release or after aging in a cool cellar.

Two Roads 20 Ton Ale is available starting this week in 750ml bottles, and limited draft.

Style: Barleywine
Availability: 750ml bottles, Corked & Caged. Draft
Arrival: December 8th, 2014

12% ABV

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude Releases November 8th

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude is a sequel to another rare barrel aged offering from Boulder, The Dude’s Bane. So named, because the barrels aging both beers were constantly in the brewery’s “Shipping Dude’s” way.

The dude strikes again! A sequel to The Dude’s Bane, Scourge of the Dude is the second release in our barrel-aged Dude Series. This barleywine ale was born on our pilot system, using a blend of caramel malts, toasted rye and a hint of smoked malt, then aged for eight months in first-use bourbon barrels. Although strong bourbon and oak characters from he barrel dominate up front, the Scourge opens up with subtle raison-like notes and a dry, tannic finish.

Boulder Beer Scourge of the Dude will be available in 22oz bombers, capped & waxed.

Style: Barleywine (Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 22oz Bombers
Arrival: 11/8/14

12.5% ABV
