Swamp Head Preps Barrel Aged Roosevelt

We’ve been expecting this one, especially because Cigar City is working on a barrel aged edition of “Church on a Hill.” Quick flashback: Swamp Head and Cigar City each brewed a barleywine. Cigar City’s was an English style barleywine dubbed Churchill (until his estate shut that down.)  It was then named to Church on a Hill.

Swamp Head brewed an American barleywine, dubbed Roosevelt.  A little while later, we learned of Cognac Barrel Aged Church on a Hill. It is only natural that Roosevelt would spend some time in barrels too. 20 year old Pappy Van Winkle barrels to be exact.

Competition has been shown to be useful up to a certain point and further, but cooperation, which is the thing we must strive for today, begins where competition leaves off.  FDR

Style: American Barleywine (w/ Pecans, Barrel Aged)

Founders To Celebrate 15 Years With Bolt Cutter

Founders Bolt Cutter Barleywine

Founders Brewing was founded 15 years ago by Mike Stevens and Dave Engbers. The duo both had non-beer, business, and undoubtedly boring jobs.  Beer was their calling.  After nearly going bankrupt making some “unremarkable” beers, they decided to make beer for themselves. Basically, what they want to drink – not everyone else.

They’ve come a long way in 15 years! In 2012, a few of their beers are ranked among the best on planet earth.  RateBeer.com ranks Founders #2 in the world. Not bad right?  In true beer fashion, the brewery is planning a special anniversary release.  That’s Bolt Cutter pictured above. I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go ahead and assume the name is an allusion to “cutting the chain” on ordinary beer.  It’s a big one too – 15%.  That’s puts some limitations on what states Founders can ship it to.  (I’m looking at you Georgia.)

Alpine Beer Co announced today that more Barrel Agd Black Odin’s Raven is available at the brewery.

From out of a black hole, miraculously escaping and arriving in exquisite condition, we are pleased to announce the re-release of “Barrel Aged Odin’s Raven” in 22 oz. bottles. This batch is 100% barrel aged, not blended, and has a more pronounced bourbon influence. Bottle limits of 4 in the brewery and no samples available there. As soon as we run out of “Token” in the pub we will put some “Barrel Aged Odin’s Raven” on for samples and tulips. We will run out of “Token” today, sometime.

Some other beers to be aware of –

Friday June 1st –  “Bad Boy” will be available for growlers and pints at the pub.

Another newbie: “New Millenium.”  Pale ale, 5% ABV.  We dry hop this light pale ale with Millennium and Galaxy hops for an out of this world flavor and aroma experience.

White Birch Launches New Series: Small Batch Ale

White Birch Brewing (Hooksett, NH) just launched a new beer & new series last evening.  The Small Batch Series will feature creative brews based on the vision of the brewmasters.  First up: Ben’s Sour Rye Wine Ale.

The first in our Small Batch Ale series was brewed by our Brewery Assistant Benjamin Martin. Ben’s Sour Rye Wine Ale is a copper colored, full bodied barley with a tart aroma. Flavors of fig and a little barnyard are complimented by a spicy rye bite. Combining tart, spicy and sweet, this wild rye wine is a treat to the adventurous palate.

Style:  Barleywine
Availability: 22oz bombers
Released: April, 2012
