Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze is ready to return for a 3rd time

Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze is about to make a return to the beer scene. You can almost hear the whale hunters breathing heavy.

The American wild ale is a blend of 1, 2, and 3 year old beers that has been aged in French oak barrels. The first release of this beer was in 2009, and in 2016, this only it’s third ever release.

“We’re more than excited to release the third version of Duck Duck Gooze.” Said Tomme Arthur, COO and Co-Founder at The Lost Abbey. “Waiting for barrels to mature over the last three years has been a journey on its own, but the finished beer proves the wait was worth it.”

How to get it.

Lost Abbey Duck Duck Gooze sales will start on Tuesday, July 26th, 2016, at 12pm PT. As long as the servers don’t crash again, those logging in will be able to purchase up to six bottles, at $41 dollars a bottle. No shipping. No proxies, either. The person that buys the ticket, picks it up on either August 27th, or 28th. If you don’t, the bottles will be surrendered back to Lost Abbey, and a refund issued. Carolina Bauernhaus Raspberry Petite Sour is the brewery’s 2nd bottle

Carolina Bauernhaus Raspberry Petite Sour is officially the Anderson, South Carolina brewery’s second bottle, following hot on the heels of June Princess.

The base beer in Carolina Bauernhaus Raspberry Petite Sour is the Source Series golden sour ale, blended with a massive amount of red raspberries. The final beer was aged in bourbon barrels for 4 months. The resulting beer is wall to wall raspberries, sour tartness, and bourbon oak.

This unique regional ale draws its acidity from a strain of lactobacillus isolated by SouthYeast labs from opuntia fruit in La France, SC and a blend locally captured native yeasts.

Carolina Bauernhaus Raspberry Petite Sour is available starting today at the brewery in Anderson.

Style: American Sour/Wild Ale (w/ Raspberries. Barrel Aged. Bourbon.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft. Brewery only.

Destihil Wild Sour Synchopathic joins Wild can lineup

Destihil Wild Sour Synchopathic has joined the brewery’s Wild Sour Series. The series is known for release like Plum Sour Stout, Kriek, and Lynnbrook Raspberry Sour Ale.

January 2016 was the first time that Destihil Synchopathic Sour first appeared. The dry-hopped American wild ale boasts quite a few flavors according to the brewery:

…with totally rad aromas and flavors reminiscent of grapefruit, orange, lemon, tangerine, pineapple and hints of pine, giving way to a biscuity-crackery malt back beat, low bitterness and a dry finish to bring everything in synch.

Destihil Wild Sour Synchopathic is available in 12 ounce cans and draft starting in mid-July.

Style: American Wild Ale
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Release: Mid-July, 2016

Creature Comforts Mutualism, a collab with Jester King debuts

Creature Comforts Mutualism, a collaboration with Austin, Texas based Jester King Brewery releases on July 14th.

Both breweries experiment with wild and sour cultures, making this collaboration a no-brainer. This “Southern style” collaboration features a blend of both house cultures that really make each brewery unique.

The base beer is a pilsner, brewed with wheat and grits from Dayspring Farms (you’ll know from Dayspring) whose secondary fermentation uses the culture blend.

Mutualism was born from a shared vision with our friends at Jester King Brewery of a forgotten cask, that was once a pilsner, but had transformed due to fermentation and time. To craft this beer, we made a pilsner using local wheat and grits from Dayspring Farms, and put it through a secondary fermentation with a  blend of both our house-mixed cultures. The result truly is a symbiosis of friendship, conversation, and bringing the best out of each other’s work. This is Mutualism. Enjoy.

Athens based illustrator (and incidentally tour staff member) Melissa Merrill created the artwork for this release.

Creature Comforts Mutualism is a 750 milliliter bottle offering, available at the brewery in Athens, Georgia only.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Grits)
Availabilty: 750ml Bottles
Release: 7/14/16

5.5% ABV

Ed Note: Reader questions submitted to Beer Street Journal unfortunately not be answered. Creature Comforts declined to speak about the collab. Per one brewer- “We made a beer with our friends. It is what it is.” -R.R.

Wicked Weed Genesis returns after a year

Wicked Weed Genesis has returned to the Asheville, North Carolina brewery’s lineup. It has been about a year since the beer was last released.

Over 200 pounds of papaya, mango, guava, and pineapple are used to create Wicked Weed Genesis, which is aged in white wine barrels 6-12 months.

In the first days, everything was black, barren, void of meaning. Life hid in the shadows and was kept at bay by nothingness. In the world’s stillest moment, a thunderous crack divided the skies. From the parched rock, water burgeoned forth, spilled over the black mountains and the Spirit Iyapa’s presence was imparted. What began as a whisper turned to a roar of life. Cell by cell, plant by plant, a vibrant world emerged.

Wicked Weed Genesis is a 500 milliliter bottle release. Available at both brewery locations, with limited distribution to follow.

Style: American Wild Ale (w/ Papaya, Pineapple, Guava, MangoWine Barrel Aged)
Availability: 500ml Bottles, Draft. Limited.
