Beer Street Journal Video: SweetWater Releases The Price Is Wrong!

SweetWater Brewery’s (Atlanta) latest Dank Tank release is now shipping, dubbed – The Price is Wrong!  This new offering is a bit of a departure from SweetWater’s mastery of the hop arts. Mark Medlin, Nick Nock and the rest of the brewing team have merged American hops and Belgian yeast into a Belgian strong pale ale that is sure to leave an impression.

The Price is Wrong! is literally a merge of an imperial IPA with the fruity notes of a Belgian ale. It’s as delicate as it is dangerous. Beer Street Journal grabbed a glass of this boozy newbie with SweetWater’s brewmaster Mark Medlin. He gives you the rundown in this new exclusive video.

Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale
Availability: 22oz bombers, Draft. One time release

9% ABV, 79 IBUs

Beer Street Journal Video: Jekyll Brewing Officially Opens

It took just over 25 months to make Jekyll Brewing in a reality. Georgia’s newest craft brewery is located Alpharetta, about 20 minutes north of downtown Atlanta. Jekyll will officially become the suburban city’s first packaging brewery when they start canning in December.

Josh Rachel and Mike Lundmark got the name of the brewery from Georgia’s Jekyll Island brewery – built in 1738. Even though the brewery is now defunct, the island was home to the deep south’s first brewery. Josh (in the video) is the co-founder and will serve as the brewery’s head brewmaster. Jekyll opens with three beers – Big Creek Kolsch, Hop Dang Diggity IPA, and Cooter Brown. That’s just for starters. There are plenty more in planning.  Tours are held Tuesday-Friday from 5-9, and Saturday from 1-9 pm.

SweetWater IPA Day 2013 in pictures

This is Beer Street Journal’s wrap-up of  #IPADay 2013 from SweetWater Brewing Company. The brewery has trended the last two years as one of the hoppiest hot spots on social media on this day. The lineup is, of course, crazy. A sampling of the hop love includes Chocolate Bourbon IPA, Whiskey Barrel IPA, Hop Hash IPA, Some Strange (Dank Tank throwback), Double Bourbon Aged IPA, and all the cask offerings.

Overall, it was yet another successful IPA Day across the U.S. Here at SweetWater, five IPA cask variations were gone in an hour. I’m pretty sure the barrel-aged IPAs blew at the same time. One thing’s for sure: America’s love affair with hops continues. Check out the video above and the pics below.

Simpson’s Duff Gardens Opens, Complete with Duff Beer [VIDEO]

Flying straight off the animated screen and into your glass is Duff Beer. The infamous animated beer is now a reality (in the United States that is.) Duff Brewery is a part of the new Simpson’s Theme Park. The Duff Brewery “tap room” has opened in the park as you’ll see in the video. Beer Street Journal is told that the brewers went through about 10-15 iterations of Duff Light, and Duff Dry, taste testing with Simpsons creators Matt Groening and James L. Brooks.

Just as the animated series goes, these beers will/do mimic certain popular American lagers. No distribution for these brews either. They are park exclusive offerings.  Either was, this is the first time Duff beer has been authorized and legitimately made.
