Good People Snake Handler cans reappear

Good People Snake Handler, one of Alabama’s most well-known beers, available in cans once again.

The imperial IPA is actually a year-round offering on draft. Once a year, the Birmingham brewery cans this offering. The most common compliment by the brewery’s fans – this beer is dangerously drinkable.

Dangerously drinkable, this Double IPA brew is a spirited celebration of all things hoppy. Aromas of pine, citrus, flowers, spice, pineapple, and grassiness complement a biscuit and caramel backbone. Hands down, our most requested beer.

Good People Snake Handler is a 12 ounce can during January and February,

Style: Imperial IPA
Hops: Columbus, Warrior, Cascade, Simcoe, Chinook
Malts: 2-Row, Specialty Malts
Yeast: California Ale

Availability: 12oz Cans, Jan-Feb. Year-round on draft.

Half Acre Chocolate Camaro is back in drive this week

Half Acre Chocolate Camaro is back in drive on January 13th. A must have for dessert beer fans.

This chocolate milk stout is brewed with Ecuadorian and Dominican cacao nibs from Ethereal Confections in Chicago. Half Acre describes this beer as an easy warmer – “dark strength packed with co-co cream qualities.”

Slow burn, deeply etched coco surrounds a medium build, pseudo-mod toast machine. Fire power restrained by responsible intention. Excessive muscle slow rolling past the local fuzz. Bring your milk money, it’s lunch time.

Half Acre Chocolate Camaro is a 22 ounce bottle release, and draft. Growler fills are available at the brewery.

Style: Milk Stout (w/ Cocoa Nibs. Lactose)
Availability: 22oz Bombers, Draft. Growler fills.

More Dank. The Hop Concept Dank & Sticky IPA returns

The Hop Concept Dank & Sticky IPA, the first release in the Hop Freshener Series back in 2015, will return to shelves this month.

In 2015, Port Brewing/Lost Abbey announced a third branch of the brewery’s lineup – The Hop Concept (or THC. Oh, the irony.) THC is obsessed with hops, with each beer in the lineup named for the most important hop or flavor profile.

MORE: The Hop Concept IPA Series

When it comes to India pale ales, “Dank” is the definitely the trend, this making the return of The Hop Concept Dank & Sticky IPA perfect timed. Dank uses some of the best hops out there, including Eureka, Mosaic, Cascade, Comet, and Simcoe.

“We love the fact that we get to ring the New Year in with Dank & Sticky IPA. There’s some great juicy beers out there, but sometimes you just need dank resins in your life, and this does the job. – Tomme Arthur, COO of Port Brewing/ The Lost Abbey/ The Hop Concept.

The Hop Concept Dank & Sticky IPA is a draft and 22 ounce bottle offering for a limited time starting mid-January. After that, except another quarterly rlease.

Style: Imperial IPA

Dessert Beer: Hardywood Raspberry Stout

Hardywood Raspberry Stout returns to the Richmond, Virginia based brewery’s lineup on January 7th.

The base imperial stout is brewed with ample amounts of cacao nibs, and chocolate malt (because, chocolate) and late season red raspberries from Hanover, Virginia based Agriberry Farm. We throw around the term “dessert beer” a lot at Beer Street Journal. With good reason, because they are damn good. Hardywood Raspberry Stout is all that an more.

Raspberry Stout captures the essence of a decadent raspberry truffle in liquid form. A beguiling ale, this stout’s enticing cocoa aromatics build to a flavorful crescendo of full bodied dark chocolate, subsiding with a pleasantly sweet, tart raspberry jam laced finish.

Hardywood Raspberry Stout us a 750 milliliter bottle release, available at the brewery on January 7th, 2017.

Style: Imperial Stout (w/ Cocoa Nibs, Raspberries.)
Availability: 750ml Bottles, Draft.
Latest Return: 1/7/17

Creature Comforts Southerly Love collaboration returns this month

In summer 2014,  Creature Comforts (Athens, GA) collaborated with 7venth Sun Brewery (Dunedin, FL). The result of that (very warm) brewday party was Creature Comforts Southerly Love.

Southerly Love is an American wild ale, slightly kettle soured with lactobacillus and fermented with the house brettanomyces yeast blend. This January, Creature Comforts Southerly Love returns briefly to the brewery’s lineup. The 2017 edition features Idaho 7, Cascade, and Crystal hops.

“We used a solid dose of funky, tropical and aromatic hops, both in the brewhouse and as a dry hop, to add complexity and intrigue to the beer. The result was a synthesis of yeast and hop flavors, melded into a balanced, cohesive and just plain delicious beer.” – Co-Founder and Brewmaster Adam Beauchamp

The new label was designed by University of Georgia Scientific Illustration Student Katie Schmidt.

Creature Comforts Southerly Love will be available in 750ml bottles and draft at the brewery in Athens, Georgia on January 17th.

Style: American Wild Ale
Hops: Idaho 7, Cascade Crystal
Availability: 750ml bottles, Draft.

Romance in a can: Madtree Rubus Cacao returns

MadTree Rubus Cacao is available in cans for just the second time ever. The beer first appeared on draft in early 2014.

MadTree Rubus Cacao is sweet chocolate stout, featuring cacao nibs from Cincinnati’s bean-to-bar chocolatier, Maverick Chocolate. The beer finishes with a touch of tart raspberry.

“It was important to us to work with a local partner to find the cacao nibs and that led us to Paul and Marlene at Maverick Chocolate,” said Jeff Hunt, MadTree Brewing co-founder.  “Maverick was on-board immediately and very excited to help us find the right chocolate to achieve the flavor profile we wanted for the large-scale release of Rubus Cacao.”

MadTree Rubus Cacao will be available in 12 ounce cans starting at 12 noon on January 7th. Attendees can try Maverick Chocolate offerings.

What to expect:  Some beers with raspberry can be overwhelming. I.E. Raspberry beer with a touch of stout. Madtree’s rendition is dessert. Hints of raspberry, balanced well with chocolate. The world needs a little more romance. This beer brings it. 12 ounces doesn’t last long.

Style: Stout (w/ Chocolate, Raspberry)
Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
Distribution: Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Athens and Northern Kentucky.

Maui Brewing Lemongrass Saison, brewed with Lost Abbey

What started as a collaboration in 2013 with Lost Abbey is head to shelves again this month – Maui Brewing Lemongrass Saison.

Lost Abbey’s Tomme Arthur mentions that a simple saison with lemongrass was a recipe he always wanted to create, but honestly, never got around to making. Hawaii’s Maui Brewing stepped in and helped make this beer a reality.

RELATED: Maui releases POG IPA

Simple recipe it may be, but neither of these breweries skimp on flavor. The Belgian-style saison uses 200 pounds of locally grown lemongrass.

Our original batch of this beer was the culmination of that vision; and Maui Brewing’s skillful use of this amazing flavor makes me truly wish it was available more often. In revisiting this recipe, my wishes are coming true,”

Maui Brewing Lemongrass Saison is back in action starting Friday, January 6th, in 12 ounce cans and draft.

Style: Saison (w/ Lemongrass)
Hops: El Dorado, Cascade
Malts: Oats, Pilsner

Availability: 12oz Cans, Draft.
